So this past weekend I went to a wedding in Chicago. My sister and I counted 5- yes FIVE- guests wearing white dresses!!!!! 3 of them were like just white!!!! One was white with black trim and the other was all ivory. I couldn't believe it! I was so mad! Who does that!? And I didn't even catch it at first- FH did. Isn't it universally known that you do not wear white to a wedding if you are not the brde?

Unfortunately, FHs aunt has already informed me that she is wearing a white strapless gown to our wedding and that she looks hot in it I'm trying ot get FMIL to clue her in
Perhaps the best man will 'accidently' dump a glass, or three, of red wine on her dress?

I guess I broke the cardinal rule... I wore and ivory dress (short) with gold trim to a friends wedding (the one in my avatar)... it didn't look anything like a wedding dress, so I didn't think twice about it...
Shame on me, i guess?

that is one of the rudest things i have ever heard in my life...your FH needs to BLUNTLY tell her that she CANNOT wear it, I would KILL anyone in my family if they wore white..I am the only VIRGIN BRIDE

this brings me to another question, is it inappropriate to wear the same color dress as the BMs?
Thats not so bad cus 90% of the time people go to a wedding not knowing what color the BMs are wearing.
i agree you just wouldnt know... plus what if the BM are wearing Black.. I would be screwed Black is my go to color for dresses

- five people no less, not eve just one mis-informed person. Yeah- 'I have a rule- no white, ivory, cream...not for MOB/MOG and certainly not for guests. They can leave their envelope with the maitre'd and be escorted off the premises! J/K- sorta..LOL

Your dress is fine!! Its not a white, strapless beaded gown like the one coming to my wedding.

Someone has to tell her, but currently she isn't speaking to anyone in the family, so as soon as communication is restored, FH will have to do a fashion intervention!

WOW--FIVE?!
Someone wore a white dress to our wedding...it was the date of one of our friends....I saw her while waiting in the limo---I was like what the F- for a second and then forgot about it the rest of the day!
I have this great white dress from my RD that I want to wear to something but don't because I will not wear it to a wedding or even a bridal shower!

I have heard that the MOB is the only other person technically 'allowed' to wear white to a wedding but yeah ummm haven't seen it done!

Re: Cannot believe I forgot to post this!!!!
I was a wedding and 3 guests (including an aunt) wore white/ivory it completely caught me off guard. I have a beautiful dress that is almost like a champange color, but it is really light, and I would not wear it to a wedding... i just feel bad... now a days people dont always wear a 'white out white' dress, and if my dress is lighter than the brides I would feel like a tool!

The BMs at my cousins wedding wore black and i knew this so i actually called my cousin and asked if I could wear black. She laughed at me and said it was fine.

I wont even wear the dress I have on in my picture to a wedding- it was the BM dress I wore to my sisters wedding- but she is the one who picked it out so it was okay.

I know I am in the minority here but I don't think wearing white to a wedding is a BIG DEAL unless it is a big ball gown. In the end, you know who the bride is. IMO!
hmmm i am part of the minority too! ur not alone. i dont think its such a big deal. i honestly wouldn't mind if someone wore a whitish color to my wedding.
