So this past weekend I went to a wedding in Chicago. My sister and I counted 5- yes FIVE- guests wearing white dresses!!!!! 3 of them were like just white!!!! One was white with black trim and the other was all ivory. I couldn't believe it! I was so mad! Who does that!? And I didn't even catch it at first- FH did. Isn't it universally known that you do not wear white to a wedding if you are not the brde?

Thats just crazy!! I think its totally inappropriate to wear white, ivory, eggshell, etc to a wedding, but some people don't think its a big deal.

my cousin (the bride) didn't seem to notice that i knew of. But its still weird! And a couple of them were as white as her dress and you would get a glimps of them and think it was her!

actually, i never really knew that officially before i got engaged, but i always felt it would be weird to wear white to a wedding. i dont know if thats because i felt weird because its a wedding or if i am uncomfortable wearing white in general (i am very clumsy, lol).

Luckily, your cousin didn't notice. But who does this? Nevermind not knowing about not wearing white, wouldn't you just stray away from it anyway if you are going to a wedding. I know that even before I knew about this, I never wore white to a wedding.

i don't think this matters, because most people prolly wouldn't know what color the bridesmaids are.

Thats not so bad cus 90% of the time people go to a wedding not knowing what color the BMs are wearing.

My FMIL wanted to wear the same color as the BM...I told her that I'd prefer she didn't as I personally think it is tacky. So guess what she decided she wanted to wear after that?? Yup...WHITE! I asked her not to and then had the saleslady at the store 'direct' her to a more appropriate color.
A lot of MOB/MOGs will wear the same color family as the BM but, in my opinion, this takes the emphasis off of the BMs.

As a gues, you normally don't know what color the BM's are wearing. Could be black, blue, green, chartruce etc. BUT everyone knows what color the bride is going to wear. Safe to say, wear any color except for white, diamond white, off white or ivory.

I was at a wedding recently where the mother of the bride wore a long lacey white dress with a train!!!! I've never seen anything like that in my life!

I know I am in the minority here but I don't think wearing white to a wedding is a BIG DEAL unless it is a big ball gown. In the end, you know who the bride is. IMO!

Amazing, right? This woman has no knowledge of etiquette and is usually a trainwreck at any event I've ever seen her at. She also lives in a small town in Pennsylvania and they do weddings much differently than we do. I'm trying to work on it, but its difficult because she isn't speaking to FMIL. And no, she doesn't have any daughters, just cats!

I saw the same thing recently. A woman in a white beaded dress at my friend's wedding. I understand its not as taboo anymore and you'll recognize the bride....but they seriously couldn't find a dress in any other color? White was the only one available?
