Cant find a reception hall b/c Im soooo picky

Original post by divabride

Now Im worried Im going to run out of places to look. There's nothing out there that pleases me. I just want a place on the water that doesnt look dumpy outside, has nice grounds, not centrally located on a main road (noise factor), has good food, holds only one wedding at a time and all within my budget. I have yet to find a place that meets all of my qualifications thats within my budget. I think Im being too picky, but nothing really stands out. What am I going to do?

DEfinitly go check out Timber Point because their new renovations are suppose to be great. But I should add that I didn't think I was going to like it from the pics on there site & when I went I loved it(& I got married there before the renovations), sometimes pics don't do a place justice. But, just to clarify, theres NO discount anywhere for getting married in October, its the 2nd most popular month to get married in!

From what I was told by Flowerfield, they would likely be out of your price range. (i'm in a very similar one as you) They told me more than $120 for Nov/Dec which is generally speaking a slow time. Plus that's a HIKE from Amity. I would also tend to think Land's End will run more than $100pp, from what I've heard.

Lemme think...Woodbury CC has nice grounds, and it's set back off the road. So is Crest Hollow which is right over there. CH has very very nice grounds, the reflection pool at night is great.

I dunno if someone mentioned Port Jeff CC. I believe they are being redone, as they are now owned by the Lombardi's. I've heard good things about Vineyard Caterers, but it might be too far for you.

I had dinner with FH the other night at Captain Bill's in Bayshore and thought about you while I ate dinner. I tried to peek in the reception room but the doors were closed. I am considering having my rehearsal dinner there. Great food. and a beautiful view of the water.

I am WITH YOU!!! I'm starting to panic a little myself because I'm running out of places too! I am basically looking for everything you mentioned and not 1 place has everything I want!!! Ive seen SO many places! I came very close to booking the Bridgeview Yacht Club in Island Park but have a problem with their dance floor. Its not very slippery, hard to explain, you'd have to see it. But I would check them out because they're on the water, we tried the food and its really really good, they're reasonably priced, hold 1 wedding at a time have an AWESOME bridal suite. If you dont mind the dance floor than I think you'll like it. My second choice right now is westubury manor because of their grounds and location but no water! :< I'm getting married 9/30/05 and really am anxious to book a place already! Good luck to you and check out bridgeview!!!

I think it's either on the first or second page of this thread of my 'problem' with the Bridgeview. Just imagine me being the girl in the middle of the SNL skit with Chris Katan and Will Ferrell dancing to 'What is love?'

It is hard to find the perfect place!
I looked all over and finally picked Sans Souci b/c of the view, atmosphere and the price - It's about $80.00 pp incl. tax/gratuity/maitre d tip...I thought that was a great price esp. since it includes the flowers...

I did go to the caterer to find out about tenting the yard or going to Leeds Pond Preserve - for $2000 you can use their house...
It was $12000 and my budget is about $17000.
It wasn't worth it b/c at S. Souci I was saving $$...

Let me know if you have questions - I think I FM'd you...

I'm getting married at Vanderbilt and had exactly the same guest count as you will. I'm inviting 168 and hoping to have between 130-140. I looked all over, literally. I wanted a pretty outdoor ceremony, but I was looking for a mansion setting so Vanderbilt fit the bill. One place I never saw that may work for you is the Harbor Club. I don't think they have a high minimum and I think its in your price range. Feel free to FM me if you have any questions.

For anyone who hasn't picked a place and is looking I reccommend Flowerfield. They don't really advertise so it's word of mouth. I was take aback by the beauty of the place.

If you have any questions you can call and ask for Meaghan or FM me anytime.

Offical Flowerfield Thread

Best Wishes,

WE used BYC and loved it - we didn't like the floor either and for $1200 we rented a bigger wood floor that looked awesome, and gave us so much room on hte dancefloor. Work with KAthy - she is very helpful

I don't have any new suggestions for you, but I just wanted to wish you luck. Don't worry you will find a place. It's very stressful, I looked at many places and thought I'd never find a place too! (Hopefully this will be the hardest part of the planning!)
