Now Im worried Im going to run out of places to look. There's nothing out there that pleases me. I just want a place on the water that doesnt look dumpy outside, has nice grounds, not centrally located on a main road (noise factor), has good food, holds only one wedding at a time and all within my budget. I have yet to find a place that meets all of my qualifications thats within my budget. I think Im being too picky, but nothing really stands out. What am I going to do?

hate to say it but there is no perfect place out there. I think anyone who is on any kind of budget has to compromise. If you want it on the water - you are going to pay more. Having it in October will be better as far as prices though Go look at Atlantica. They really work with you on prices if you go there off season. It is really pretty too and they will give you extras off season in addition to a lower price. Octover isn't really that far out of season since September is the most popular and i was told recently that October is gaining in popularity over summer months.
Maybe you can change the date to a few weeks later if budget is an issue

Try the Glenn Island Harbor Club in New Rochelle or The Marina Del Rey in oggs Neck in the Bronx. Both are beautiful and very reputable.

Re: Cant find a reception hall b/c Im soooo picky
I visited all of the aforementioned, and Im not happy with any of them. I did like Giorgio's, but I couldnt meet the minimum and Atlantica is gorgeous - but too far. Right now Im considering the Hamlet or the Woodbury CC. My only gripe is I dont like the outside of the Hamlet and the room I want at the Woodbury is not available on my date.
Our reception was at the Stewart Manor Country Club (www.stewartmanor.com) Only 1 wedding at a time, great food, pretty grounds, weather permitting the cocktail hr can be outside, great price ($65pp), cake, centerpieces and linens included. It's off the main road on a residental street. The only thing is that it's not near the water. Speak with James. He was terrific and took excellent care of us.
Good luck, Donna 10/5/03

I agree, the RIVIERA sounds like the place you should be looking. Everything you mentioned, they have. They are on a secluded road, on the water, beautiful grounds and offer a cocktail hour out doors. Good luck!

That's true about Atlantica, the prices are higher in Oct. than Sept.
I had to change my date over to Oct and my price raised up.

I'm not sure what your price range would be but we loved Flowerfield in St. James. They only hold one wedding at a time and once your wedding starts noone enters. So you won't get people visiting like when we went to the Watermill. We got some hateful looks. If you have any questions feel free to FM me anytime and / or got to the thread I made. :
The North Ritz is really nice. We went there with my sister , who is getting married there on 8/29/04 . ( Jessnyc711 )
Best wishes ,
Thomas
PS : if you can tell us any little bit of info we can keep making suggestions. It all comes down to how you both feel , no matter how I loved Flowerfield

I like flowerfield, but its a little far and I spoke with someone there who told me I didnt have enough people. Im looking to have 125-140 people. Im just looking for something that is pretty on the outside and the inside. Im looking for something a bit contemporary, but I like the vanderbilt (both). Im so indecisive!!!

It would really help people if you told us your budget per person. (either with tax or without) That way we can recommend places that are actually doable for you. (Unless you did, and I missed it) Also a headcount as well.

If you are invited 140, make sure that you get a place with a minimum guarantee that's around 100. You don't want to have to scramble for last minute guests, or pay for plates that aren't going to be eaten. I don't think you're going to have much luck finding a place in Westchester that's under $100, but I could be wrong.

So far my list is at 170, but I have a lot of out of town, which is why I say 125-140. Westchester is a hike for us though. Im not even looking at places in Queens. The farthest I can go west is lake sucess and the farthest east I can look is sayville/happauge. Im getting married in Amityville.

Did you look at the West Sayville Country Club, heard it was very nice, although I have never been myself.
What about John Anthony's in Babylon, or Capt Bills in Bay Shore.
