Cant find a reception hall b/c Im soooo picky

Original post by divabride

Now Im worried Im going to run out of places to look. There's nothing out there that pleases me. I just want a place on the water that doesnt look dumpy outside, has nice grounds, not centrally located on a main road (noise factor), has good food, holds only one wedding at a time and all within my budget. I have yet to find a place that meets all of my qualifications thats within my budget. I think Im being too picky, but nothing really stands out. What am I going to do?

Did you try The Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling College? Only downside is that the ballroom is small(im having 110 people or so). The caterer though has a great reputation (same as Land's End, Flowerfield...), it is 95 - 125/person & not cheesy at all. One wedding at a time. Not on the ocean, but is on a river. Check it out.Good luck.

I live in Westchester and most of the New Rochelle places (Surf Club, VIP, Glenn Island) aren't that cheap. They all start over $100 and I believe that most of them are in the $150 range.

arent Vanderbilt Mansion and Land's End owned by same ppl? I think Flowerfield is apart of that group also but no sure.

Did you look at Captain Bills since the renovations? It is supposedly very beautiful, I think it may be pricey, why dont you give us your price range, we may be able to help more that way.

Thanks for the input you guys. Here's my opinion, so please dont hate me if your getting married there.

The Riviera - good friend got married there less than 2 years ago. Cant do that.

The Crescent - Told me I didnt have enough people to have my reception there.

Lands end - Too expensive for my budget

Timberpoint - had to cancel appt, would like to reschedule, but from pics I dont like the interior decorating (carpet and wallpaper)

Port Jeff CC - A bit too far

Sands - I dont like the exterior look

Giandi's - too far

Russo's - too far

Chateau La Mer - They wont give me the grand ballroom. They want to stick me in the smaller rooms and I dont like the choices.

the Vanderbilt - Love it, but I cant afford it. Plus she said that the month (October) we were looking for is heavily used by Dowling and that they highly doubt my date would be available. She was honest with me and I can really respect that.

I've looked at the Woodbury CC, swan club, gw manor, hamlet west wind, magestic gardens, danfords, leonards, fox hollow, crest hollow, and the westbury manor.

No offense taken... i'm not crazy about the Sands exterior either (I'm not a big fan at all!)

..I really wanted Westbury Manor because of the gardens.. but I wanted to be the only bride, and I wanted a Saturday night. I couldnt afford the Sat night at Westbury Manor so I was going to have it on a Sunday.. ..then I went to the Sands and they offered me a Sat w/ 1/2 the price and all these extra things that were included.

If it rains I wouldnt be able to use the gardens at the Manor anyway.. so I said screw it.. I'll go for the extras and have my Sat & be the only bride .... So I won! except I gave up my gardens
... BUT!!! gained a beach (if the weather is nice)...

I'd say you've pretty much looked at all the places there are on the water. Unless you try Atlantica in South Hampton.

You could try Villa Lombardi's, but there is no water there.

What about Bridgeview Yacht Club? It's on the water, one wedding at a time and good food.

FYI - Timberpoint is doing major renovations! We looked there saw the plans and it is going to look so much nicer. You should reschedule the appointment just to see and make sure in person.

I recently went to a wedding at the westbury manor, and although I liked it, my major complaint is the smoking area. The reception was located next to the smoking area in the garden. The smoking area was shared by both wedding parties. Everytime people from the other party would re-enter, they would crash my friends wedding. That really turned me off.

BTW - I also checked the watermill, but they were also out of my budget. I also didnt like the fact that you could hear the traffic at the outside cocktail hour.

Just so you know, I also didn't like the interior look of Timber point, it wasn't my style, but I have been told they are renovating the interior, and it is supposed to be really nice!

What about the Beach Club? There's a lake(water)...only one bride at a time...prices were reasonable. I am having a Sat. afternoon and I guaranteed 75 people. I know there are some mixed reviews about the place...but so far, my experience has been great.

Ok, I'll give timberpoint a shot. I wont even look at Villa Lombardi's because another close friend of mine is getting married there in a couple of months. I dont like the bridegeview because I used to club there. Imagine getting married the same place you used to pick up guys?! Heyyyyyyy, how you doin?

Have you checked out Atlantica, Westhamptons Beach?

I think the price range is $115-175+
w/minimum of 100people.

My wedding is in Oct of this year.

Good Luck!!

What about Giorgio's, it's on a golf course with a beautiful view, and I got an EXCELLENT price. It's in Baiting Hollow.

Try the north ritz club...

Check out Sunset Harbour in East Patchogue. They'll definitely fit your budget (around $65pp) and they only do one wedding at a time, on the water, tucked away from the main road. It's not the ritziest looking place in the world, but for that price, you might be very happy with it nonetheless. It's definitely worth a look-see. Andy is so great and the food there is VERY good! I also don't think you'll have any problems meeting the minimum. Good luck in your search!
