Card Boxes

Card Boxes

I like the idea of making a card box for the wedding. I want to tap into my crafty side that I never get to use, and I think they look really pretty. My mom said no way, she thought it was tacky, thinks people should hand me the card and that's that. Which is fine with me, but I still like the idea of having the card box there.

Any resistance from anyone for having it there? Did guests slip the cards in there or did they hand them to you and you put them in there yourself?

Thanks girls!

i have not used mine yet..... but.....

i went to a wedding earlier this year... she had something similar.

it seems that not many people knew what it was, and they ended up giving the cards to her.

this isn't changing my mind about using mine

I dont think many people know what one is either, but when people hand us a card we can put it in the box so they are all in one place.

My parents hated the idea, but DH's parents said everyone has them so....

we had a card box. DH's family put their cards directly in the box. My family handed us the cards and we put them in the box. Just make sure you have the box in a safe place... we had ours next to the sweetheart table.

I thought people were supposed to hand cards to us and we put them in the box ourselves.... we made a photocube just for US to have any cards we get all in one place and not get lost - I didn't think my guests would put them in there on their own. Every wedding I've been to there was SOMETHING for cards, be it a box, bag, photocube, birdcage...

Re: Card Boxes

Everyone put them in the box at our wedding. We didn't touch an envelope. I made ours as well, but it was very different from most of the DIY I have seen. I made mine with the fabric I also made the ring bearer pillows from.

Re: Card Boxes

we made our card box.
people gave the cards to us (and we gave them to my bridal attendant) and to our parents and then we put them in the box. it was kept at our table. it was not a problem at all.

Re: Card Boxes

I think the problem with card boxes arise from the fact that they are opaque. Unless, your guests see someone else placing their card in your box they be handing it to you or FH.

Personally, I want to purchase a birdcage so I can lock up the envelopes, plus the cards will be visible. Also, since we can't get a dog (yet) I can tell FH we need a birdie for the cage.

We are going to have a card box, but we figure most people will hand us cards anyway.

agreed, agreed, agreed.

when i bought my card box [solely to shut my MIL up about what i'd put cards in], she said 'what is that?' i told her it was for the cards. she looks at me weird and insisted i just needed a bag to walk around with. i was NOT walking around collecting cards like a beggar! i even went so far as to move the card box to UNDER/BEHIND the sweetheart table. no one knew what was for when it was on the table. so i moved it out of sight. most people, unless they are all over this site or have recently planned a wedding, have no idea what a card box is!

Most of our guests put them in the card box, but some did hand them to us. Personally I was happier with the guests using the card box (esp since we worked so hard to make it); when someone handed me a card I'd just put it in there anyway. When I go to weddings I always use the card box, I think it's easier and not tacky at all!!

This is what we made, we used hat boxes. Let me know if you want some directions on how to do it!!

I made mine. It was so much fun and easy to do. Some people did put there cards in but most people did hand them to us. But its a collecters now. Dh wants me to toss it but I won't

I like the idea also & if no one knows what it is that is fine ~ I will put the cards in it (if I happen to receive any)

Re: Card Boxes

I think people like to hand the cards to the bride and groom, it gives them a chance to say hello and what have you. I would still have a card box though so that way you're not carrying the cards around the whole night or handing them off to either set of parents or throwing them under your table. The card box will keep everything in one place because knowing my luck I would misplace the card that had the most $$ in it

PS and a huge FYI ... make sure whatever it is you're using for your cards has a lock on it. FH and I were at a wedding last year and the cards were stolen and the bride and groom were left with nothing. They still have no idea who took them and they haven't seen one of the cards since.

See, surprisingly the card box is tacky to my mother, but WALKING AROUND WITH THE BAG is okay. I know it's tradition to some, but I feel VERY uncomfortable doing that, and thought this would be a nice alternative. Then I think I'm going to just make one and have it there. Thanks for all the input ladies!

Honestly, that is like my biggest fear. I think I'm just overly paranoid most of the time, but I'm so scared that someone will just take them.

Re: Card Boxes

we made ours so that it would be very obvious if someone tried to get at the cards--the box would be destroyed.
