mrsblesie2be had fm'd me some instructions a while ago...i just looked them up ...I might as well post for all you ladies DIYing your invites.
Here is the process I went through to make my pocketfolds that people have asked me about....its a reoccurring email I have copied and sent. HTH
I printed my invites on a laser jet printer (I have a big printer so I'm not sure what other printers will work)...I believe that the printer has to be able to feed cardstock paper which is pretty thick. So I would first try and see if your printer accepts cardstock unless you are printing your invites on other paper. Go to michaels and just by a sheet of cardstock to try it. I wrote/designed the actual invite (wording) in microsoft word as well as my directions and rsvp cards. I made the pocketfolds by ordering big sheets (28' x 20') of metallic serpentine (the green color) card stock paper from www.papermojo.com and they cut the paper in strips that were 6' x 20' for a small fee so I was able to get 4 strips per sheet which is 4 6x6 pocketfolds per sheet. To make the pocketfolds, I bought a little paper scorer/cutter from office depot which makes the cuts and creases for the folds. This is needed because cardstock doesn't fold well on its own. I attached a picture so you can see what this little paper cutter thing looks like. The rest is really easy. I just measured the strip of 6' x 20' paper and scored and cut the areas needed to make the pocketfold:
From the top going down: 3'-score it (makes the top flap of the PF) 6'- score it (the part where the invite goes) 5'- score it (the background of the pocket) 2.5'- cut it (makes the part that folds up to be a pocket)
Then you just fold them all and glue the bottom flap up to form the pocket.
To fancy it up a bit I used the ribbons and buckles as well as little rhinestones.

Re: cardstock for invites
I bought some at Michaels (to check the color) then ordered online at Joanns b/c its cheaper w/ them and you can get a pack of 50 12x 12 sheets.
Depending on the color you want- Staples has it pretty cheap ($13 for 250 pages in white and ivory..8 1/2 x 11)

I got mine from papermojo...they are really easy to do as you can read above

Re: cardstock for invites
You can buy the pocketfolds from cards and pockets in bulk and if you have a xyron machine, you can stick the invitation and any backing paper that you want to add on to the pocketfolds. I think the inserts, you would want to get cut into the correct pieces and stick them on the side of the pocketfold (in the pocket). This is what I plan on doing, but I am not sure yet if I will print my own invites or get them professionally printed, but I will assembly my own invites and buy all of the cardstock.
