Casual Weddings

Has anyone been to an informal beach BBQ/clambake wedding? My fi and I are not really up for the hoop-la of a traditional wedding? Suugestions/advice would be appreicated.

I think you should do whatever suits your personality, and your fiance's too. I've never been to a wedding like you've described, but I'm sure it would be fun! All you need to have a nice wedding is a bride, a groom, and guests who love you. : )

I am not sure how far you want to travel, but there are a lot of places out east that have small casual weddings. The Crow''s Nest Inn (www.crowsnestinn.com) has a 3 day wedding package with nightly bon fires on the beach. The wineries have indoor/outdoor wedding facilities as well. We are having a small ceremony at the Montauk Lighthouse with the reception at a restaurant in the town. I am sure that you could find something closer that would be perfect for you and your FI. Casual Weddings...yes & on a beach!!

2 years ago a friend of ours decided to get married after living together for, forever..... They too didn't want anything too fancy, so they got married at a beach that had a huge overhand with tables that were already there and bench. They just put bubble and cameras on the tables, there were no centerpeices. To the side of the seating area was a small awning and they had the food made by some people that cooked and then other food came from a deli. They have a cake, soda, beer & wine. That's it, oh yeah a freind of their's is a DJ so he did the music as a gift!! They married right there as everyone sat at there tables. It was pretty neat. I still cried, after all it was the meaning and the day!!

OMG that was our first choice. To get married at the Lighthouse and have the reception at the Teddy Roosevelt Park!!! Wow I just read you're post nad could not beleive it!! Where are you having the Reception?? We looked at the Crow's Nest but really didn't like it, also the Golf Course has a hall and of course Shagwon's Resturant. That the best place to eat!! Well I just thought I share that with you. It brought back memories of the weekends we went out there to plan the wedding. Since then we've changed the Venue. We're getting married closer to home. Ps. The Montauk Yacht Club That was pretty nice.

Wow!! I am getting married at the Montauk Lighthouse too. A Sunday AM ceremony with a brunch reception for about 50 people at Gurney's. The Crow's Nest is catering a BBQ on the beach for us the night before. I can't wait!! This is a second wedding for both my FI and I and we absolutely love Montauk. I still can't believe I am getting married there.

I've never been, but it sounds so wonderful. I know several brides on the Martha Stewart boards do it. You can get lots of tips there. good luck and enjoy!

Wow, now I'm depressed. (only kidding!) We really wanted to have the wedding out there, but after the feedback from alot of people, they would've not showed!! we were told to our faces. Oh well, but we did pick a palce that's on the water closer to where we live and we are getting married on the beach. So that's the scoop on that. Everytime I see a picture of the MT lighthouse I want to cry. The Invites were going to be a picture of it, one that I took on one of our planning visits.:( So have fun palnning and let me knows how it turns out!!

My sister was married on the beach in Blue Point. There is a gazebo there and all she had to do was get a permit from the town to do it. There was taped music, a champagne toast and a beautiful ceremony. She decorated the gazebo in the morning and had some friends set up chairs while she went home to change. Her wedding pictures show her on the swings on the beach, in her wedding gown and bare feet!! Afterward we all went to dinner at the Riverview Restaurant in Oakdale. While they wanted to and could have invited 200 people they decided to have something smaller and more intimate and it holds special memories for everyone.

A lot of people attending our wedding will have to travel anyway (most of our family live out of state), so they are glad that the wedding is out east, they are all having a weekend vacation at Montauk! We are having our reception at Oyster Pond Restaurant. There will only be 40 or 50 people there, so we didn`t need anything big. I am sure that your wedding will be great, you are still on the beach, and maybe you can incorporate the lighthouse into your wedding. Possibly your favors or decorations or something. Just do whatever you and your FI like, it`s your day, enjoy it!

Thanks, I needed to here that. We are avid fisherpeople?, so we are incorporating that into the recept. & favors. I'm really looking forward to it! I guess I just miss Montauk!!
