Cat Lovers Please Help ASAP!

Re: Cat Lovers Please Help ASAP!

first I have to say that I think what Julybride said was very inappropriate especially since it seems like your heart is breaking. Sometimes you don't have a choice in taking a different appt. I'm sure you didn't choose it with the thought of, 'oh well, kitty's gotta go!' Animals become a member of the family and I know it's hard to let go.

My heart is breaking! I wish I could help, but like the others, I have pets already- 1 dog (big dog) and 2 guinnea pigs. The pigs wouldn't be the problem since they are in a cage, but my dog would. Also, my DH is severly allergic! Best wishes to you and your kitty!

I agree with JulyBride. When you have a pet, it should be a life long commitment. There is no way to soften the reality of what JulyBride said. If you can't make the commitment, then some people should not have pets.

I think this thread is getting out of hand.
She didnt ask for opinions, just a home for her kitty

I hope you were able to find a home for your kitty.

the grateful paw in East Northport is a no kill shelter
can't you mom or dad or a family member take the cat for a while

Re: Cat Lovers Please Help ASAP!

Some helpful notes:

Try to find him a home where he will be a member of the family and they will NEVER consider looking at a home that they can't bring him too.

Try to find a home similar to yours if possible (if you have no kids, don't put him in a home with young children. If you have no dogs, don't put him in a home with dogs, etc. Also, if he's an indoor kitty make sure it will stay that way or vice versa).

Try to find a temporary home for him with a caring family member or foster family. Shelters are already overcrowded with legitimately homeless cats (strays that get lost/abandoned, animals whose owners pass away, etc.) - they really aren't meant as a place for owners to take their animals when they decide they have other priorities.

Also, some no kill shelters eventually ship the cats out to shelters where they will be killed. Sad, but true. The trauma experienced by cats in a shelter is sometimes irreversable.

I am sure that Emma, when she first adopted her kitty, did not plan for this to happen!! It's breaking her heart! Sometimes in life, *hit happens..... I don't think anyone should pass judgement when you are not in that person's shoes!

I agree. Its hard enough on her that she has to give up her kitty. I'm sure if she had the choice, she would bring him with her. Unfortunately a lot of places don't allow pets.
A friend of mine had to give up her kitty of several years because she got married and her husband was highly allergic and the shots weren't helping. Someone will adopt kitty.

I can certainly understand giving up an animal if my husband or child had a severe allergy or asthma, etc.

A nicer apartment I can't understand. We'd never even go and look at an apartment that didn't take animals because to do that would imply we'd be willing to give up our cat to move there - and we wouldn't.

Amen!
Enough already about the how and what.

Lets just try to be considerate to others feelings, no matter who they belong to and try to be helpful.

Whether or not we would have done something differently is not the issue here. We can't tell others how to run their lives, nor does pointing out that you disagree with the motives help anyone here.

I like July's suggestions or at least the heart of them. I do also understand where her argument is coming from but all of that is besides the point.

If you know someone who wants a kitty then great. This kitty may end up one of the 'true' homeless kittys if no one can help him. Unlike other heartless people Emma is at LEAST trying to find a home for it.. instead of just dumping it at a park.

So lets play nice and try to be helpful!

Hugs to all kitty owners!

And animal owners alike!

He is too adorable!! My cat looks just like him. I wish I could take him but my cat isnt neutered so he isnt good with other cats. Plus, my mom would kill me if I did. My cat is staying with my mom after I get married because FH is allergic.

Do you have any family or friends that he can stay temporarily with?

I know this is totally sneaky - but would your landlord really know?

This is not meant to offend .. I'm just curious .. why isn't he neutered??? (And I hope he's an indoor boy!).

Sorry! Good luck trying to find a home. I'm sure your heart is breaking, I know when I go on vacation I miss my bird Elvis so much, I can't imagine what your feeling.
