Why do people say 'I hate cats' . And then you ask them, why and they say - I don't know, I never had one, but they look sneaky, evil, dirty etc.
I think that's an unfair statement. I never had cats before I met my DH and now we have 2 plus Casey. They are the most sweet loving kitties ever. And very clean. Sometimes sneaky but never evil.
So - why do people 'hate' cats so much?

Re: Cat spinoff..for those who 'hate' cats...
I am deathly scared of cats. I am sorry to offend those who are 'lovers' but they are really creepy. Maybe it has something to do with that movie with the cat trying to kill Drew Barrymore or some othern movie with evil cats... cant remmber the name???

Never trust a person who doesn't like cats
I disagree on that one too. My psycho former roommate was a HUGE cat lover.
I'd prefer 'Never trust a psycho.'

Re: Cat spinoff..for those who 'hate' cats...
I thought the phrase was 'never trust a person who loves cats'. I may be wrong though!!
My friend does have a very cute, playful cat...I have to admit. If i weren't allergic I would play with her, it acts almost like a dog..very funny.
Years ago I used to call cats the children of ***** that is how much I hated them. But i've grown up and learned they aren't all evil.
And yes..there are nasty dogs out there!! But the same goes for any walk of life...some are good, some are bad!

Re: Cat spinoff..for those who 'hate' cats...
i never grew up around animals and every cat ive come across I didnt particularly like. I lived with a roomate who had a cat and it was the most annoying thing- always trying to get in my room- hair all over.. i know dogs shed as well but. I also have a cousin who has a cat Pookie and i was always so nice to her. One day, out of now where, the nasty thing hissed at me for no apparent reason. That made me dislike cats even more!!!
Michal is going to kill me since she wants me to meet and like her cat Pookie so bad!! Sorry

Honestly, I am soooo afraid of cats. I've never owned one, but have been around friends cats, and they just totally freak me out. I have cat-phobia

Re: Cat spinoff..for those who 'hate' cats...
I have 3 and they are great, but I find most of the people I have run into who hate cats are allergic, 90% of them, and or their parents dont like cats. Some of my friends have said things like ' my mom hates cats' ..so the fear is passed on. Dogs tend to be friendlier , cats I think are 50/50...they get nervous quicker then a lot of breeds of Dogs, and people sense that and get nervous too.
People who know my cats tend to LOVE my 20 lb Maine coon because hes like a little dog that crys for you pet him and is the friendliest thing...my other cat who is tiny, not as cute ( well in their minds anyway!) and a little skittish, people dont tend to like her ....

Re: Cat spinoff..for those who 'hate' cats...
I hate cats because
A) I've been bit/scratched by 1 too many cats
B) I hate the fact that they walk up on peoples tables/counters, especially since they walk all over their litter box....yuccccccccck
C) I've never known a cat to be affectionate or be able to play with
I've never had a cat, never wanted a cat and never will have a cat. I dont even like kittens....because they grow up to be cats

I love all animals BUT as far as cats are concerned every single one I have ever been around for an extended period of time (friends, neighbors, family, etc.) have attacked me.
They are all nice and purring one second, and the next I have claws and/or teeth in my skin.
This has happened to me too, from as long as I can remember. I've had so many cats attack me, scratch me, even bite me. Many are psychotic. There are some cats that happen to be sweet, like my one friends cat, but most of all, I am not a cat lover by any means......
Love Dogs though--they're just the freakin cutest!

I wish you all could meet my sweet little kitten Scout......she's pure goodness wrapped in fur....
Gunnar, on the other hand, is the reason people hate cats....

2. I prefer animals that love you back and are rather demonstrative of such. Most cats I've known glance disdainfully at the humans around them, and generally avoid all human contact where there is not food involved.
i have to disagree with this statement. my cat, boomer, loves to be around people, food or not. he will just sit in the same room as everyone b/c he is by himself all day and he likes the company.

Re: Cat spinoff..for those who 'hate' cats...
I don't like cats because:
1. Every cat (that wasn't a kitten) has started out wanting me to pet it, so then I pet it gently for a minute, and then it bites me or scratches me!
People say that's how they are affectionate, but anything that needs to draw blood to show me appreciation can just stay on the other side of the room!
2. My brother used to hate cats but his FW just brought one home one day without asking, so he had no choice but to allow the cat to stay. That cat walks all over the counter, the table, in the cabinets, all over the baby's room AND crib, and eats off the plates! Ewww!! AND the evil thing hides under the bed or the table and lies in wait, for the perfect chance to THRUST out his paw and SCRATCH the h-e-l-l out of your feet or whatever juicy piece of flesh he can stab! And they think this is cute!
3. Cats aren't as affectionate as dogs (from what I have seen, again, I have never lived with one).
4. Cats sleep on your face. 5. Cats sleep on your stomach. 6. Cats sleep on your chest. I cat-sat for a friend while he was away on a business trip and woke up with one cat on my head and the other on my chest. I thought I was being attacked! No one told me about this odd behavior!!
This is creepy, and as someone said before, like the Stephen King Movie with Drew Barrymore... even though the cat saved her, it was still creepy! (Was it Cat's Eye?)

oh no!!!! my Gunnar stories have turned people against cats......
He truly is the nastiest though....I don't think it's because he's a cat - I think it's because he was created by *****. I've had cats all of my life.....and he is the only one who has behaved as if he runs on raw flesh..i swear!

Re: Cat spinoff..for those who 'hate' cats...
Sometimes I say I hate them but I don't really mean it. I'm one of those highly allergic people. I love animals, but I don't associate cats with good things. I feel terrible when I am near one, can't visit certain friends, have argued with friends who think I should visit them even though they have cats who make me sick.
I don't mean to offend anyone when I say that I don't like cats, I just have not had good experiences with them and have not had a chance to ever enjoy a cat's company. They are pretty and I watch them play from far away, but that's about it.

Re: Cat spinoff..for those who 'hate' cats...
There are really two different types of cats. We grew up with a dog and now me and my three siblings have cats (one has a dog too). My sister and brother have on and they are them most anti-social creatures ever. My other sister has three and two are anti-social and one is the fatest, most fun animal to be around. He pulls up a seat at the dinner table, will pose for pictures.
Me and DH have the best cat and he has made me into a cat lover. He is the most social animal and needs to be in a room that either me or DH are in. He keeps us laughing...however, everything is on his terms. They are interesting animals. He is also a celebrity on our block and kids watch him all day as he sits in our big bay window up front. They take pictures and on Halloween we had numerous kids come up to our door asking to pet our cat.
But i can see how some people are cat haters.....there are some bad cats out there.

I used to be a little afraid of cats. when I was a kid, my neighbor's kittens would dig their claws into my skin and climb up my back. My roomate had a psycho, standoffish cat. It wasn't until we adopted ours that my feelings changed.
Cats can be trained to stay off tables and countertops if you do it early. I didn't train my cats to do that, but it is possible. I just clean my table and countertop before and after eating.
I noticed the scratching seems to be a kitten thing- most of them grow out of it, especially when that behavior is not encouraged.
Cats sleep on your face, chest and stomach: I LOVE that!!! Its my cats way of snuggling.
As for not being affectionate as dogs, yes and no, in my experience. You can call a dog to come and snuggle, with cats its a gamble if they will come or not. Mine usually come and snuggle us, not so much with strangers. You have to stay around for a few days before they come on call.
I love both though, and hopefully I will be able to get a dog eventually.
