Cat spinoff..for those who 'hate' cats...

Original post by MrsTC

Why do people say 'I hate cats' . And then you ask them, why and they say - I don't know, I never had one, but they look sneaky, evil, dirty etc.

I think that's an unfair statement. I never had cats before I met my DH and now we have 2 plus Casey. They are the most sweet loving kitties ever. And very clean. Sometimes sneaky but never evil.

So - why do people 'hate' cats so much?

I say 'hate' but hate is probably too strong a word because I really do love all animals and often I'll see a cat and think it's very cute....from very far away. Anyway, I hate them because they hated me first. I've owned three cats and all three have turned on me and I had to give them away. They are unaffectionate, and really don't seem domesticated at all. They don't act like they *want* to be around humans, like PrincessRose said, unless there is food involved. They are two faced and seem untrainable to me, because they just want to do whatever they want to do.

I wouldn't say all cats have no personality, because the ones I've had definitely had personality, it just wasn't a personality I wanted living with me that I had to take care of only to get bitten and scratched. They were ungrateful, nasty, and evil.

Dogs on the otherhand are supersmart and loving. I've never seen or met a loving cat. They pretend to love you when they want food, but that's it.

Last but not least... allowing something to sh!t in a box in your house and then track the litter it just pooped in all over the house, countertops and furniture is kinda gross to me.

I have a friend who is allergic to cats thus he said he hated them. Then he met one of my parents' cats and complained 'why are you so nice? Why can't you be mean so I can stay away from you?'

Then he met our cats and asked DH and me 'why do you have to have nice cats? Why can't you have evil cats so I wouldn't feel bad being allergic?'

As far as cats not having personality, come spend the day with my two. Sully is the ultimate baby.

As far as cats sleeping in your bed, on your face, etc. My brother has a dog that sleeps on his head and the dog weighs 65 lbs. My cat only weighs 10 lbs.

I could go on, but I will just say this: I am an animal lover. All animals. I have cats now because we are in a condo. When we have a house, I want cats, dogs, horses, etc.

This one woman I work with told me once that in her country (I forget where she is from) cats are considered to represent evil. I did not push any further than that.

for the record, while they are not my pet of choice, I do like cats.

I *HATE* CATS.

When I first started dating FH, I almost dumped him because there are 2 cats in his house.

I hate that they do whatever they want, whenever they want. I HATE that they lick themselves. FH's parents cats are 16 and 17, and they've had them since birth. They 'obedient' when they're being watched, but if they're alone, they're on the kitchen counter eating out of the pots on the stove, drinking from the toilet, stratching up the couches, $hitting on the beds, getting their nasty hair clumps all over everything....ughhhh they are just SO GROSS.

FH was always a cat person, until his cat pissed on his new suit that was laid out on his bed, the night before a job interview.

I have a dog (boston terrier-very little shedding and short hair), and FH LOVES him to death. He said that he'll never ever have a cat again, but would gladly get a dog.

I met FH almost 5 yrs ago, and I've taken prescription allergy medicine every single day, @ a cost of $40 a month, just to go to his house and see him because I am allergic to all of the dandruff and cat hairs that seem to be all over EVERYTHING.

In 5 years, I have never touched his cats on purpose- only to push them off of my thigh when I'm sitting on the couch and get a claw in my leg for no reason.

Honestly, I don't care if I ever saw a cat, ever again.

My in-laws always say us converts are the worst. They've always had cats and I never had a pet until I met my husband. Now he says I'm out of control. We're up to 3 and he's fed up with me because I can't stop. I love em. I hate when people say I hate cats, unilaterallly and then they see ours and they're like oh they're so cute and they're so nice and friendly. Well, HELLO, they're are nasty dogs too, you know. Animals are only as good as their training and their home. I personally think that cat's personalities are what makes them fun. they're much smarter and funnier than dogs!

I agree with you 100%...I'll be honest though I am not an animal lover in general. I don't hate them either, i'm just not a major lover of them. I've never had a pet, well just a rabbit we used to keep in the backyard.

DH had a cat for 9 years and when we moved into our aptartment after the wedding I was freaking out thinking that this cat was going to be all over the furniture everywhere cuz that's how it was at DH's old apartment. she would be on the bed, the couch, on the tables, on the kitchen counters and in the sink. It disgusted me. Animals on furniture skeeves me...espeically when they shed...ick! But amazingly she does not do that here...hasn't done it for the 2 years we've been...I also think it's cuz she does not have the same energy cuz she is really old.
