Catholic Brides

Our church is making us do an interview, did anyone else have to do this and Pre Cana?

First I meet one on one with priest and then my FH... none of my sisters had to do this, but they were married out of state.

Fh and I had to meet with the priest one on one before we booked the church. We spent about an hour with him. Then we reserved the church for our date and booked pre cana.

yes, the priest will ask both of you the same questions... like for example, if you plan to have kids and raise them as catholics, if you were married before etc... no big deal

Yes, that is what I was going to write. It's not a big deal. They want to make sure you have the same views as each other when it comes to raising your children, etc...

Pre cana is a requirement! Some annoying questions on the Foccus questionnaire but i will deal with the pre-cana thing!

OUrs was really short and after other meetings and ENgaged Encounter it was a breeze! We were a bit nervous but no worries, it will be fine!

We had to do the same thing. Our 'interviews' lasted less than 5 min.

We had to meet with him back in August to book the church and now he wants to meet with us again, seperately. Normally I woudn't complain, but we're in NYC and it's a hassle to come out to LI.

We met with our priest every month from October until February. We cherished this time and really loved it...so much so that I cried at our last session when he said 'see you at the wedding' because I would miss him. Like the ladies above said, it's to get to know you and see if you're ready for marriage or need to work on certain things.

HI,
We met with my priest before the wedding like 3 times, so it is a common practice. I think they just want to get to know you two better as a couple...nothing to fear.

Yes, we had to meet the priest together for about an hour. It was very nice actually...

Although when the priest asked us if there was anything that may prevent us from performing the marriage act - I answer, as long as there is a seat, I will be fine. The priest and FH were laughing.. I had no idea the marriage act meant you know what!!!!

Re: Catholic Brides

The priest separated us asked us four questions:
Are you entering into marriage freely
Are you currently married
Have you ever been married before
Do you have any children
That was it. The priest said that one couple answered affirmative and he had to counsel them through the whole 'yes, I've been married before but never told my FH.' Woops!

Re: Catholic Brides

That's nothing...my Church required us to meet one on one with the Priest, then we had to take a COMPATABILITY TEST! Then we have to meet another married couple to go over the results of the test and then they would let us schedule precana. The test had 150 questions and took about 1 hour.

my poor FH got all flustered. . . Father asked him if there was any reason why he wouldn't be able to consummate the marriage.

we did precana and actually really enjoyed it (but didn't think we would before getting there!) . .. We didn't have other interviews though... OUr priest is FH's cousin.

Re: Catholic Brides

we did out 'interview' when we met with them to give the date/time for our wedding....we talked for about 1/2hour together with him, then we each had to answer a few questions alone...lasted like 5minutes
Then, we had to do the FOCCUS questionaire...not every catholic parish does this, and now we are waiting to start precana....
