Catholic Brides - Banns of Marriage

so the parish we're getting married in (that we joined and go to fairly frequently) just told us that they don't publish the banns of marriage anymore. and that we could go out to our childhood parishes if we wanted to.
my old parish said that the other parish should be doing it, not them, since we're regular members there now. and his old parish said that they dont publish them anymore either.

has anyone else been told something similar recently? it seems like its not really 'required' any longer. im a stickler for tradition, so i find this kind've strange.

I haven't heard this, and it just seems like a nice touch. Do they have a weekly church announcement? If not, maybe this is why.

It's not required anymore. My church still does it, but FH's doesn't.

banns are the published annoucements in the bulletin about your upcoming marriage. historically, so that anyone who might know of a first marriage or something could object.
