Hi all- have you heard anything about how it works getting married at the reception hall versus the chruch. I know you can get a priest to do it but I hear it wont be recognized by Rome. Not sure if this is a big deal or not. Any thoughts or info?

Re: Catholic ceremony at RH
I have heard that it is very, very difficult to get a catholic priest to do this and I'm pretty sure it will not be recognized in the catholic church.

ours wouldnt. The priest told us they only do interfaith ones outside of the church....we would have to get a deacon or someone like that.
Supposedly it's not a sacrament or recognized or something like that if it's not in the church.
There are a few options ive heard about cuz my friend is facing this issue
you can have a private 'church' ceremony before a ceremony at the RH (like with your parents and moh bm) so then ure official but no one knows this. but then its like why bother having the second one etc...or why not invite everyone to the church...but its still an option
or you can have the ceremony at the rh and then sort of 'appeal' to the church and the priest can marry you afterwards. one of our friends found this but i dont know much of the details.

Re: Catholic ceremony at RH
Every RH i went to said if I wanted a catholic priest to preform the ceremony I would be better off in the church.
I thought it might be easier to get maybe a retired priest to do it.. But settled on the church anyway.
FH's family really made me feel bad about NOT wanting to be married in a church.. But I ignored them, but FH told me he would really like to.
So if it is what will make him happy, I will do it. But we agreed, no mass, ceremony only.

yeah if you dont get married in an actual church it is not considered a sacrament and you are not married in the eyes of the church - dont know if this is important to you or not?
you can always do that private ceremony idea - but if its not important to you then maybe just get married by a minister at the hall
priests that are active in the church ( not retired or 'fired' lol) cannot marry you outside of the church
we are only doing a ceremony too - FH's idea NOT mine - it actually gets me upset that i wont be taking communion with my new husband BUT i guess it shouldnt bc he doesnt really believe in it anyway so i guess i am just being silly!

Thanks guys. Im torn as to what to do! My mom and Dad were married at the UN b/c they needed a priest and a rabbi and my mom is just finding out now thru me that since she was not married at an actual church, she must not be recognized by Rome. Yet, my sisters and I were all able to be baptized and confirmed! So weird!
