My sister and I are getting married at the same church, and found out their 'Guidelines' that they have... Do you know the flowers that you can have put up at the alter, well my sister is paying $400 for two of them, then planned on having them brought to the reception hall to put infront of the Bride and Groom table. WELL.... The church said,' Once the flowers are in the church, they are a 'Donation' and WILL NOT be removed.....' My sister is already paying a $575 'Donation' and extra for the organist, and now they want the flowers that cost $400!!!! Is this Absurd or what???!!!!!! And next year, I'm getting married there, and they're leaving such a bad taste in my mouth!!

Re: Catholic Churches -- Can They Do This???
Our church had the same policy, but since DH and I were using silk flowers for everything, the church didn't want them. So we took them to the reception hall.
Good luck, Donna 10/5/03

Can you 'borrow' the 'donated flowers' for the reception if you assure them you will re-donate them?

Re: Catholic Churches -- Can They Do This???
Wow! My church requires that they be removed immediately after the ceremony! They used to let you leave them because they made nice decoration, guess they don't like them anymore. But saying you have to!!!

My church said leave them or take them, your choice. If you leave them, they just throw them out before the Saturday evening mass.

That seems so silly. Churches can be crazy.

If that's they way they want it then I personally say skip the flowers and add on to the bouquets - which you can take with you.

Re: Catholic Churches -- Can They Do This???
Yeah, some churches can be very particular. A friend of mine who is a priest says that for some churches it has to do with the fact that the flowers are on the altar, which is a sacred space, and some churches dont allow things to be moved around up there. Basically, if it goes up there, it stays up there.
I don't agree with the policy, but for some churches (including mine), that's the way it is.
