I agree with HelenZ...no clue that had to be done. I thought inviting him to the wedding was enough!!!

Re: catholic girls
The donation is the tip. If you offer a tip he will not take it...(and hopefully not be offended). I say give a small gift...like a bottle of red wine.

Re: catholic girls
well i was under the assumption that the donation included all tips and things of that nature-- but since we are having an outside priest come to do our mass b/c my parish's priest flat out refused to marry us (he didn't 'feel like doing another mass that day' his words) so i asked Father Mickey (nicest man ever) to marry us and he said he would he honored... so I asked him what he charges to travel to another church (he is normally in St. Philip and James) and he told me no charge--so I will be giving him about 250-300 dollars b/c of what he did-- he will probably refuse to take it so at that point then I will tell him to donate it to his favorite charity-- without him, i would have NO one to marry us b/c my priest refused. He saved us and he is also being invited to the wedding of course.
Under normal circumstances I would not 'tip' the priest because it is included in the church donation.
ETA: you could send a small gift like a fruit basket with your thanks also

Re: catholic girls
We'll be giving our priest a gift, not sure what just yet but somethings meaningful. He's very close to our family and I wouldn't feel appropriate offering him money that I know he wouldn't accept.

Re: catholic girls
Our donation to the church is $500 which includes the church, organist and singer. We are tipping the altar boys $20 each and we are having two priests...one from the parish and then FH's friend who is traveling from another parish. We will give each either $100 or buy them vestments. Both will also be invited to the reception and more then likely will come.

Re: catholic girls
you actually dont tip the priest. the donation to the church is what you give. my church gave me a hand out and it specifically says not to tip the priest. you may tip a msall amount to the alter boys though and it is nice to invite the priest to the reception for an opening prayer

Re: catholic girls
Wow, I had no idea we had to tip the priest. I know my church charges $300 just to use the church and then for the organist and singer $115 each. I know we are supposed to tip the alter boys but no idea about the priest. I thought he was getting paid from the $300 I am paying for use of the church.
