How much will you tip your alter boys and priest?

We're not having a Mass so I don't know if we're even going to need alter kids... and for the priest... I didn't know we were supposed to.

We won't be tipping the priest because he is a family friend, but we will probably tip the altar boys like $20 each.

We arent doing a mass but we will have alter boys. I figured 20 each is good... but priest... I mean i feel weird tipping, but I also feel weird NOT tipping!

$20 should be plenty

I really don't think that you have to. I personally never would have thought to tip him. I think the altar boys deserve it because they are taking time out of their days to do it - but its the priest's job LoL

we aren't having a full mass so I don't think we even have altar boys... but I thought it was bad etiquette to tip the priest bc it is like an insult to their duty or something

Are you sure that its even customary to tip if the service is in the church?

no tip for the priest

I dont think you are supposed to tip them...not sure if even accepting a tip is against their vows or what not. If you want to send a gift or something like that, im sure that would be ok.

Yes it is. I know this b.c the boys in my family have always been alter servers.

To answer the question. $20.00 per alter server is fine... I'm still trying to figure out how much I'm giving the priest as well... maybe $100??

Hi Twin! I am not tipping the priest. I am just tipping the alter boys to pick up the runner and the flowers. I feel like the Donation is way too much, since it is a donation. I am also not doing a mass, just the ceremony

Ditto, no tip for the priest, my 'donation' is high enough, along with my music costs. I won't have altar servers, no mass.

There are enough other tips to give out, to workers for vendors!!!

MY cousin gave $100 to our family priest as a tip and you need to tip the alter servers too! $20 should be fine!

Damn I thought my $800 'Donation' for a 20 minute ceremony was all I had to shell out! lol Dont think I will have alter boys though... Just my deacon..but this raises another tipping question... Do I have to tip the musician that the church gave me then??

I'm pretty sure we're getting married in the same church... my sister tipped the alter servers $20 each but the priest wouldn't accept the tip so don't worry about that. I'm going to tip the alter servers $20 and not even offer the priest something else since I know he won't take it.

Re: catholic girls getting married in church

I actually asked my priest about this b/c he's a close family friend. Priests should not be tipped, they are administering a sacrament they're not a vendor. Nobody tiips them at Communions and confirmations (also sacraments) so marriage is the same.

It is recommended to tip alter boys b/c they are volunteering and they're kids and giving up part of their day off.

I agree I feel you need to give them something, priest included.
