I moved from Long Island to Staten Island yesterday. I figured on Saturday I would start updating all my addresses. I called Sprint and advised them of my new address and specifically told the girl that I DID NOT WANT TO CHANGE MY NUMBER YET.
So a few minutes later I go to use my phone and I get a recorded message that says, 'Welcome to Global Roaming. Please enter your credit card number to make a call...blahblahblah'? So obviously now I am seriously confused. I go online and get Sprint's number and call them back. The girl advises me that the first person I spoke with changed my number by accident but she doesnt know what it is (and neither do I). So she tells me she will attempt to retrieve my previous number and call me back. She calls back a few hours later and promises that she has fixed the problem and my phone will be working again in four hours.
Fast forward to Sunday morning (probably twelve hours later)...my phone still does not work! I call Sprint and get a recording that they are closed. Great. Now I am moving in the rainstorm yesterday from Long Island to Staten Island with no phone.
I call Sprint this morning and get someone on the phone. They fix the problem. I ask for a credit for all the issues this created and they offer me -
A FOUR DOLLAR CREDIT!
I laugh and ask for a supervisor. The supervisor will not budge. Needless to say I disconnected my service. F#ck Sprint. I now hate them.
How insulting is that? FOUR DOLLARS?
Does anyone have TMobile? I think they have the highest customer service rating out of all the carriers and this is something I was CLEARLY lacking in my old company. Any opinions?

Go with Verizon. I have been a customer for more than 10 years and I have not had any problems with customer service, their phones or their service.

Thanks for all the info guys. I think I am going to go with TMobile. FH uses a ton of minutes and they seem to be coming in the cheapest - PLUS they are releasing sidekicks on April 24th that YOU DESIGN YOURSELF! I am so excited about this! I think mine will be pink or white! Yay!

Just be careful and ask around a little more b/c I know a few people that live on Staten Island (I went to HS there and have family) that have no service on certain parts of the island w/T-Mobile.

TMobile is AWFUL. I hated, hated, HATED them. They are cheaper - but you know the old adage... you get what you pay for.
Verizon is awesome. They are a little more expensive.. but I have NEVER had a problem with them. My phone is usually the only one that works when we are out of town or up in the mountains.

Oh no! Maybe Verizon is a better choice then, huh? They dont have a sidekick that allows me to choose the color though, do they? Darn...

I have to say, even though I have Sprint and haven't had a problem so far, I think you absolutely did the right thing, and they were CRAZY for not offering you more. I'm just a user on my husband's account, and he's had them forever mainly because we have a gazillion minutes a month due to his government discount (postal employee). I switched from Verizon to them only to get the discount. Thank God I've never had to get customer service from them. Good for you for canceling.
