i am looking for a place to hold one of our pre-wedding events (thursday night before my sat wedding) - we are probably inviting 125 people or so. i am looking for places in setauket, port jeff, mt sinai, stony brook area. it doesn't have to be anything fancy- just a simple not expensive place that can accomodate 110 people.

Re: center to hold a not so fancy event?
Maybe the Old field club..up by West meadow beach..not sure how much you'd want to spend. They are awesome there..just went tonight to a retirement party.

You can try the Three Village Inn or the Country House. Or maybe the Meadow Club, they have a smaller room. Good luck!!!

well, what we are looking for is a place to rent just for its facilities and tables/chairs/etc. we are bringing in an outside caterer - so old field club won't work- they don't allow that.

not sure if you can bring in an outside caterer but check with the Stony Brook Yacht club. (you don't have to be a member to have an event there). they have a very nice location and not so fancy (but AWESOME view!!!!) right on the sound. great sunset!!! we had our RD there with 50 people, but we didn't hardly fill half the place. Good luck!!
is there a VFW hall near...but then you have to have it catered...by yourself...or a deli or something

thanks for the suggestions but nothing is working out!!
i called old field, meadow club, stony brook yacht club, and smithtown landing country club- can't bring outside caterers. setauket neighborhood house is booked that night. three village inn and country house won't allow outside catering.
i'm running out of ideas!!
ugh!

Knight of Columbus has halls everywhere, look for them, some are pretty big and I believe you can bring in your own food. Good Luck!!

What about 'The Loft' at Danfords? It's a beautiful view.

Danford's also 'rents out' conference centers that can accomodate 150 people.

Re: center to hold a not so fancy event?
well, i'm he11 bent :-) on bringing in food bc thursday night before the wedding is an indian event called the sangeet- where there is dancing/singing/etc. since it's a traditional indian event we want to bring in indian food to go along w/ the theme of the night and to make it a bit different from the wedding - which is 2 days later.

Re: center to hold a not so fancy event?
Well, that's a much better reason to be he11 bent about the food than, 'I just like my mom's food better!' Not that I thought that was the reason....do you know anyone who lives in a condo or apartment complex? I know my parents have a clubhouse where they can hold about 125 people for a buffet. Much cheaper too, I think it's like 100 bucks for 4 hours.

Re: center to hold a not so fancy event?
not around here i don't. danfords won't allow it either!! there is one place in setauket that i have to hear back from. and then this other place in port jeff. so hopefully one will work inbetween the 2 of them!! thanks for the suggestions!!
haha- no i dont' really care about where the food comes from- it's not a big deal to me. but it would make sense to have indian food. i'm going to check out this indian restaurant in stony brook- but i think they don't do the type of indian food we are looking for- we'll see.

There is a big highly rated indian restaurant behind Roosevelt Fields called AkBar. Why don't you try them? I hear the food is outrageous!

Have you tired calling a hotel near where you live...they probably have a conference room and you can bring in your own catering???? You might even try call Stoney Brook University and see if you can rent one of their conference rooms.

You can try the Neighborhood House. I believe it is in Stony Brook or Setauket.

The Curry Club has yummy indian food. They are in Stony Brook or Setauket. I always get confused with those two towns
