Centerpiece Concern

Original post by nickychick879

I don't know if this is weird, but how does a tight bunch of tulips tied with a ribbon, cut short, in a square vase with glass marbles in it sound? It's all I can imagine as my centerpiece but both my mom and florist are giving me so much grief over my decision. Oh, and I want a different color at each table. Anything about this idea raise red flags to any of you?

My friend did that but in round bowls (with water) and they were beautiful.

Great I dea.. ..I love tulips too, if I wasn't getting married in October thats probably what I would use, plus it will go with the scenery of your venue as most likely the swanclub gardens will be full of tulips at the time of your wedding in April.

I think it sounds very pretty. The florist wants you to go bigger so they can charge you more, maybe your mom just wants something more dramatic-but this is YOUR wedding-not hers.

It sounds very nice, and while I agree with the fact that it may get lost, there is sooo much other stuff on the table that in honesty it will free up room. If they are worried about that why not put votives around it with maybe ivy or some kind of strung leaf/flower wrapped around the bottom of the vase

Just and idea

sounds nice, but yea i do agree u can probably get a bigger CP if u wanted roses, but ultimately its ur choice, so i guess if u happy go for it...

I think that your centerpiece ideas sound great. I was thinking of using tulips for my centerpieces until FH & I met with our florist and he told me that tulips wouldn't be in season when we are getting married.

Re: Centerpiece Concern

Sounds lovely to me. If it's really an issue, how about as someone said, if you do two or three arrangements of them on the table? Short ones, maybe two small square or cylinder vases of tulips--or maybe one of daffodils?--and a candle in a third vase? Won't cost too much, and would have a bit more impact than one vase. Daffodils are dirt cheap.

That said, I'm also having one tight arrangement of flowers on my table, surrounded by colored votives. But I'm getting roses as tulips are on their way out by early June. I would have loved tulips or daffodils.

I think it sounds very simple and classy, I LOVE it....Sounds like a Martha Stewert style centerpiece. Do what YOU want its your wedding. Try it with and without the little balls and see wich one you like better. Without them i think it would look more professional but thats just my opinion. Go with your gut tulips are beautiful!!!!

When a vendor says you're not getting enough bang for your buck, it usually means they want more bucks. Stand your ground and remember they work for you, not the other way around. As for your mom, try and get her to focus on something you both agree on and like - there are so many details that this will totally blow over.

i love tulips too!

i brought the picture below to my florist and she loved it.

my mother however didn't like it at all. she wanted really big lavish centerpieces, but that's just not my style! eventually she agreed but it was tough! i say stay strong and get what you want!! it's going to look great!

this is pretty much what i'm going to do

I really love your idea. Go with your gut instincts. Simple is more elegant.

I am doing tulips on my tables. They will be fine and what you wrote sounds like it will look great!!! Tulips are a pretty strong flower- they wont be losing their petels like some do.

BTW- my florist said that white tulips on boutineers may turn yellow, but my mom does work with flowers and said they will 90% be fine and may be saying that just to be on the safe side. Here is a pic of what we are doing with our tulips.
