I don't know if this is weird, but how does a tight bunch of tulips tied with a ribbon, cut short, in a square vase with glass marbles in it sound? It's all I can imagine as my centerpiece but both my mom and florist are giving me so much grief over my decision. Oh, and I want a different color at each table. Anything about this idea raise red flags to any of you?

What exactly is their problem with it? It sounds lovely and it's not like it's uncommon. Go with what makes you happy. It's your wedding.

Re: Centerpiece Concern
They both feel that I could get roses and much bigger centerpieces (which I don't want) for the same price, so they feel I'm not getting 'enough' bang for my buck.
My florist claims that because the are 60' round tables, my choice of arrangement will 'look lost on the table'.
My arguement is simply that I don't prefer large arrangements, I love the idea of a smaller, simple, yet trendy arrangement, and I feel that there is always so much stuffk on the set tables that it would be refreshing to actually have room for my guests to put their purses and cameras somewhere.
but I'm literally banging my head against a wall trying to get them to see my point or just leave me the f*** alone.

Re: Centerpiece Concern
I think it sounds nice. Are you putting stuff around the arrangement like flower petals and votive candles? How are your table numbers/names going to be displayed? What are your favors? Maybe your mom and florist aren't seeing your vision because they don't know what else is going on the table. Perhaps once you tell them the rest of the stuff that will be in the center of the table, they'll get a better idea of why the arrangement you want is the best choice.
Personally, I get annoyed when I can't enjoy my meal because everyone's so cramped at the table. People's menus and programs and favors are all over the place and they end up on the floor...

Re: Centerpiece Concern
I am a tulip lover!!!!! I loooooooove tulips!!!!!! So my first instinct is to say screw them and get the tulips!!!!!!!
BUT....
tulips are the only flower that will continue to grow after its been cut and put in water. soooo, what your flowers look like an hour after they are arranged, will not necessarily be the same 2 hours into your reception. THe arrangement may look a little out of sorts.
Also....
Tulips do not do well in the heat...which is why they peak in season in april and are out by late may (which is why im prob not gonnaget them, im late may!!!)
If you dont mind those things....GET THE TULIPS!!!!! Everyone gets roses!!! Be original....I absolutely LOOOOOVE TULIPS!!! AND am still trying to find a way to incorporate them into my own wedding.
FM me if you have any more q's on tulips.

Re: Centerpiece Concern
I had a great picture of tulips and of course cant find it now. It was very classic and modern at the same time. They just took a nice clear glas vase and put pink tulips in it, then wrapped them tightly just above the mouth of the vase with a wide satin ribbon. It looks great.
I would have chosen them if they were in season in late July, but went with gerbers instead, As someone else said, the main concern with tulips is they can wilt in the heat-very fragile so you don't want them handled much day of the wedding if you decide to do the arrangements yourself (AND YOU SHOULD! Costco has beautiful tulips-I bought some around Easter? last year and MUCH less expensive than a florist. or buy them wholesale.)
I think you should do what makes you happy. I mean, there are going to be dishes on the table and napkins and silverware...gets crowded. But if you don't want to hear complaining, maybe sprinkle votive candles around and call it a day.

Re: Centerpiece Concern
Always loved this one-the galvanized bucket is something I am featuring in our theme since it’s a bit gardeny.
HAH! And I found this ona site sooo you can always tell the complainers that you chose tulips because you and the FH are perfect lovers...GUARANTEE that will make some lips tighten!
What Do Tulips Represent In A Wedding? Tulips, in general, is the symbol of The Perfect Lover. That is why it is an ideal type of flower to use in weddings. If you choose red tulips for your wedding, you are declaring your love to your partner. Yellow tulips mean that you are hopelessly in love with your partner.
And cream-coloured tulips mean that you will love your partner forever.
That, folks are what weddings are all about.True love....

Re: Centerpiece Concern
It sounds beautiful. Why is your florist having a problem with it? It does not sound like it's too difficult to do... It's your wedding, do what you want and I am sure that it will be perfect.

not too far off from this....
this is from the ad for martha stewart flowers from her home page

I think you've answered your own question. If tulips are what you like, then that's what you should go with. If your florist is so concerned that you're not getting enough 'bang for your buck' then they need to make sure you are!!! I can't even believe they would say something to imply that.

Re: Centerpiece Concern
Definitely, definitely go with what you like and it sounds like your really want the tulips. I think it sounds like a really nice idea and I love that you are going to do different colors for each table! I think I'm going to do something simple because like you said it would be nice to not have so much on the table!

Re: Centerpiece Concern
Go for it girl, and since they are just about in season now, why don't you have the florist make you a sample? Then you can see if he is really 'seeing' what you are thinking. Good luck!!!

Re: Centerpiece Concern
to make it look 'more' maybe you can have like three smaller containers on the table. I'm piicturing those great ones you see in Martha Stewart with either a different type of flower in each or the same flower just in different colors or with different types of containers...
