centerpiece opinions please

centerpiece opinions please

need some honest feedback...we are having a beach themed wedding...our centerpieces are more of a beach concept rather then flowers..they are amazing looking...the middle is a large glass bowl with beach glass water and two very pretty fish with a beautiful plant coming out of it...sand, candels that type of stuff around it...I loved it when I first saw it...now I'm wondering do you think having live fish on the table is ok since people will be eating? think anyone will be grossed out..silly question I guess but just wondering what people thought...thanks

centerpiece opinons please

I think its a very unique idea. I happen to be one of those people who are grossed out by fish, so I wanted to respond. There was also a thread awhile back that someone went to a wedding where the fish died.

I don't think anyone will be grossed out - only thing I can think of is to make sure the maitre d is keeping an eye on the fish and none of them go belly up thru out the reception.

Please do some searches and read up on using fish in CPs. It's a very bad idea.

I know of several instances where people who did this had the fish die during the reception - and who wants to look at a dead fish while eating? Many people (myself included) are grossed out by live fish and wouldn't want to necessarily look at them while eating.

Finally, and most importantly, what's going to happen to the fish afterwards? You cannot expect anyone at your wedding to take them home - who wants to go to a wedding and come home with a pet? Do you plan to keep all these fish and take care of them? I'm guessing you'll have several dozen.

They ARE living animals - not decoration.

I appreciate your thoughts on it...my friend is doing them...she has her own party business going on and does amazing work...she was thinking people would want to take the center piece home...but the more I think of it, I don't think I would want to take fish home if I were a guess at a wedding....I still think it would look nice even without the fish....

Trust me, no one wants to go home with a pet at the end of the night. You can't expect anyone to want to take on the responsibility of caring for fish after the wedding. How will they even know what to feed it? When will they feed it? They'll be running out the day after the wedding to get everything they need for it? You can't rely on your guests to do that. Leave the fish out, IMO.

Count me in as a grossed out fish person. Don't get me wrong, I love fish... as a pet and on my plate! But something about eating near live fish does not sit well with me! It has to do with a long ago memory that I cannot get over!

Aside from them possibly dying, they could also poop! That's even more yucky!

Maybe you can swap the fish for floating candles.

If you do go with fish, just make sure that you check the seaglass or anything else going into the water. It could be coated with an oil or chemical to keep it looking nice and shiny and not intended for a fish bowl.

Sounds really pretty otherwise!

I agree with Kara, sorry but on here we've heard of quite a few times ppl going to weddings where they had fish in their cp's and the fish died and while sitting at a table eating you dont want to see dead fish floating in a vase.

Not only that but some ppl dont like this idea, they feel its cruel, so keep this in mind too.

Then theres ppl who get grossed out to see live fish or other live things on their table while eating.

This has been discussed many times on the board, if you do a search you can probably find it

I love the idea of fish in the centerpiece!
As a matter of fact, my wedding will be indoors, but I'll have the orange theme. So inside the tall vases, I'm thinking of having goldfish swim around.

But do a trial first, because this will not work in all vases. Some are too tall and the fish will either swim all the way on top or may even die.
