Central Park- Permit Required?

I heard from my photographer that I need to get a permit to take engagement photos in Central Park. Has anyone else gone through this process?

I looked on the Mayor's website and it says you don't need a permit for handheld cameras, but the photography company said other photographers have been asked to leave the park if they didn't have permits. I guess maybe Central Park has stricter standards than the overall permit requirements from NYC.

I tried filling out the online form for an optional permit (which is free) but it's asking for all sorts of things like production manager and location manager and I just don't know if I am even doing this right.

I know people that have had pictures done there without a permit.

I took my engagement photos there and we did not have a permit. My photographer had his camera as well as a flash on a tripod.
