I would love to hear suggestions also and quotes... as I am unsure of what a reasonable price DJ is compared to a reasonable price wedding band?

Not sure what you’re looking for but I’m having a violinist at my ceremony. I’m using The Capriccio Ensemble & I love them! They also have duets, trios, quartets, etc. For the violinist I’m paying $230 for ceremony and if I decide to have them for ceremony & cocktail hour it will be $350 total. Natalie is the owner & she’s amazing. I definitely recommend them

For comparison... I'm having the DJ provide the ceremony music and we are using Complete Wedding Packages and they are charging us very little, just $75. That's in comparison to more typical DJ prices like Body Rock which quoted me $350 for the ceremony music. (half hour ceremony at same location as reception). the $75 is probably not realistic unless you happen to go with Complete Wedding Packages. If DJs typically charge around $350 then it seems like and awesome idea if you could get a live musician instead for the same price!

I'm using Silverfox (they're doing ceremony music & cocktail hour/reception). I believe usually ceremony & cocktail hour are $250 each, but he threw in the cocktail hour music and just charged $250 for ceremony music.$75 is a great price I haven't seen that anywhere else!
They also offer musicians, but I'm not 100% on the price for that right now. If you e-mail Silverfox, they'll provide you with a pricing sheet.

Our DJ (High Voltage Entertainment) is charging us $200 for the ceremony. I looked into other options such as a harpist, but it was just too much- I got quoted $400 by one person for the 30 minute ceremony!

Re: ceremony music
Congrats on your engagement. I noticed your wedding is in January of 2016. January is typical a slow month on the East End of Long Island. With that said we offer 40% off any DJ packages & 20% off any live musicians.Just because we are in the Hamptons, that doesn't that is far. Last week we were in Great Neck for a corporate holiday party and tonight we are in NYC for another holiday party. We are only 45 from the Nassau/Suffolk Border.
We are new to LIWeddings.com but certainly not new to the wedding industry. Check us out at www.eastendE.com you will be glad you did.

Are you looking for no DJ, only a band? I'm not doing that myself, but I know quite a few girls on here are. I've hear a few mentions of Entourage from Franklin Wayne Music and Code Bleu so you might want to check them out.Welcome New Vendors
