Ceremony
Hi Everyone,I'm new to this site and am looking for someone to marry us. We are getting married at Land's End in Sayville next June 2003. I was given the name of someone - Bishop Bob Allmen but the phone number I have was disconnected. Does anyone out there have a current phone number for him or any recommendations of someone to marry us? We are both Catholic and would love to find a priest to marry us if at all possible. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Liz

Re: Ceremony
I've always heard that it's difficult to get a priest to marry you at a site other than a church.. Good luck! and please let us know if you find someone, I'm sure there are other brides who'd like that information!

Re: Ceremony
I'm using Father Jim Wishere. He's really really nice and I've heard great things about his ceremonys. His email is [email protected]. He left the priesthood to get married so that's why he'll marry outside the Church. But he gets all dressed like a preist and you can have a Catholic ceremony with him. His fee is $300. I can give you a review soon - I'm getting married next Saturday!!

I have Father Bob's new number but it is at home, I will post it tonight. You have to book him early, he is always busy, he has 5 weddings the day he is marrying us! But he is such a nice man on the phone and in person. I have seen a ceremony he did and it was so nice as well. Will post tonight for you.

Re: Ceremony
The priest from my FI's church had said that he would marry us outside of the church. He said that it is possible and that he would just have to get something called a dispensation (sp?). If you want I can try to get the name of the priest. He's in Bklyn (Marine Park) if you're interested.

Re: Disappointing News
Hi Liz...I got married outside at Land's End and you will LOVE IT!! I don't understand why you wouldn't be able to get married outside in the beauty of nature...but then again I am not Catholic...I have seen a Catholic priest perform a ceremony at the Carltun...check the pages of those free magazines...I'm sure I have seen Catholic priests...

Re: Disappointing News
Liz - Do a search on my name for priests / Catholic churches, etc. I did a TON of research on this topic - and just want to make 100% sure you know that the Catholic Church won't recognize a marriage that takes place outside of a church. I have had conversations with the Archdiocese of Long Island, New York City and mine in New Jersey. It is the rule. The priest that you will find, though EXTREMELY nice, are usually either retired, or are affiliated with another type of Catholic church - like a reform church. In my searches, I found most often that they had either left teh church to marry or wished to follow a homosexual lifestyle that forced them to have to leave the Roman Catholic church.I had a hell of a time with this. I did find a WONDERFUL man named Father Umana - he was a priest that had left the church and was great. Just know that outside of the church, no matter WHAT they tell you - it will NOT be recognized as a sacrament within the Roman Catholic Church. I promise you! (We ended up being able to get married at St. Patricks Cathedral in NYC - so we canceled Father Umana, and are going the full sacrament route!) IT really depends on how much this means to you and your family. Please feel free to forum e-mail me for more info!

Re: Disappointing News
I was going to say the same thing as Jenny, no matter who marries you outside of a church, it still will not be recognized by the Catholic Church...which was OK with us, we are both catholic but do not practice and frankly, do not agree with a lot of the religions 'rules' anyway.
