Ceremony at Church before Easter

Ceremony at Church before Easter

I know that most churches wont marry you the Saturday before Easter, but do they frown upon weddings the weekend before Easter? And do they cover the crucifix and not allow you to decorate the church?? I hope not otherwise I am def. changing the date!!

Lent is a very busy time, so some churches may not have weddings during that time. Typically there are no decorations allowed. My brother was married during lent and they were not allowed to decorate (at least with nothing too elaborate). The crucifix is covered up on Good Friday. Definitely speak to your priest and find out if they perform weddings during this time.

I would definetly speak to your preist. Alot of churches don't perform weddings during lent.

I'm getting married the week after Easter and my priest said we would be hard pressed to find someone to marry us during Easter weekend so I would advise against the weekend before as well. On the plus side if you get married the week after the church will still be decorated from Easter Sunday so you can save some floral decorating dollars that way. Definitely talk to your church b/c they'll know for sure.

Ugh, I have already changed the date so many times!! My wedding is sooooo far away and I am already getting stressed out!!

When does lent usually start? How many weeks before Easter? We were thinking about changing the date to March 28. Easter is on April 12 in 2009.

My sister got married right before Easter. All the church had was some sticks, rocks and sand on the alter. No flowers and it looked bad.
SOOOOOO what they did was have the florist make up 2 big baskets of flowers and babybreath and put them next to the alter. SO in all the pics there were the two beautiful floral backets. The pics look gorgous. The church had no objections to the baskets.

Lent starts on Ash Wednesday, 40 days before Easter Sunday. That would be February 25 in 2009.

I would get a hold of a liturgical calendar somewhere... you could prboably find one on the internet... SOme one posted that Lent starts 50 days before Easter... it's 40 days before Easter. Some very conservative parishes will not let you marry during Lent (Before Vatican II, you were not allowed to marry during Lent at ALL)
NO Catholic Church will marry you during Holy Week:
Those days would include Passion Sunday (palm Sunday), Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.

Also, the liturgical calendar changes very year, so the Easter and Lent dates vary every year by as much as a month or more.

If you do get married during Lent, you will probably not be able to decorate the church. When I met with the priest to set my date, he specifically checked to see if it would fall during Lent, because if it did, NO flowers. I am getting married on Feb. 17th. the last weekend before Lent this year.

GOOD LUCK.... (I would book the church first....)
