Ceremony mishaps

What should I do??

I am catholic and my church just informed me that only hymns can be used - and typical songs like Ave Maria. I have one song in mind that I really really want to use for the exchange of rings - it's Barbara Steisands 'I've dreamed of you' It is about her wedding so it is definitely appropriate for church. The problem is that my church won't let me use it which pisses me off because they ask to spend 500 dollars to use it plus another 350 for precana (usually it's nothing, but my fiance is British and is back in England so we have to go to an engaged encounter; a retreat for a weekend) and its not so much the 850 dollars just to get married at the church as it is the principal of asking a couple to spend x amount of dollars yet giving restrictions to ceremony music. If it was out of character for a church I would understand, but its not

What should I do? Do I begin searching for another church - or just give in??

Re: Ceremony mishaps

That is a pretty standard Catholic thing. I don't know of any churchs that allow non 'church' music, no matter how appropriate the music may be. Your best bet is to try more liberal churches...jesuit or something.
