ceremony seating
How does this work? I want to make sure that the important 'players' are up front - how does the usher know who is who?

Re: ceremony seating
Never thought about that. 2 of my ushers are my brothers so they would know my side of my family. FI will be there so maybe he can help his ushers with his side.I guess in general how would ushers know if you put them on the bride or groom's side of the church? I guess the ask. If they ask that, I am sure they can ask what relationship they are and then you would know.
I think for the most part people know the first rows (typically marked by pew bows) are reserved for immediate family....but I guess there is always that one person who needs to be in the front...like a pesky univited neighbor!
For my brother's wedding last month, I think parents were there and they helped to orchestrate this.

Re: ceremony seating
Usually if the usher doesn't know the person, they ask if they're with the bride or groom's family. If they're wearing a corsages or bout. it should give them an idea that's they're important and should be in the front pews marked with bows.

Re: ceremony seating
I will have my brother (one of the ushers) know that my great aunt is to be seated in the mother's pew. Then I will let them know that aunts and uncles should be seated closer than co-workers.There is an old tradition of giving special people in your life 'in the ribbon' cards. They bring them to the ceremony and give them to the usher. The usher then knows to seat the guest in an upfront pew. Very few people use those cards anymore, but they might be helpful if you are worried about this.
