changed the date ... now no dress!

changed the date ... now no dress!

Hi all,

FH and I planned a May 2003 wedding at his parents lovely home in Green Pond, NJ. Two days ago, his step-mother reveals that she is having reservations about the whole thing ... citing logistics as the cause for her discontent.

So ... we decided to go with our original date of March 8th since that is the day we met three years ago. We were very excited and honestly it felt really great. We even found a place that we like and the date is open.

But ...

I called the bridal shop regarding my dress (I ordered it two weeks ago) and they said that even with a rush it would not ship until March 5 (march 5!).

My questions are these:

Do I just get another dress?
Lose my deposit and move on?
Complain until the cows come home?
Cry?

I am at a loss here and I really do not know which approach to take on this.

I am elated otherwise.

Thanks ladies!

If you want to get married March 8th you have to get a new dress! go to David's or another bridal place where you can buy off the rack! You can do this my sis planned her wedding in 4 months(bought her dress off the internet) You just have to get organized! Good Luck!

Why don't you see if the store will sell you the one in the store and cancel the order...that way you can still get the dress you love and not lose the money...Don't know if they will do it but it is still an option to at least check into

Not a bad idea - thanks. I will call them again tomorrow and see if that is possible. The one in the store was a size 8 and it fit quite well.

Are you having bridesmaids? Maybe if you can't get them to sell you the sample, you can use your credit to buy bridesmaid dresses? That is if they let you cancel. Some stores are weird like that.

Go to Macys at Smithaven, I'm getting married 3/23/03 and just ordered my dress on Monday 11/18, They are having no problems and I was not charged 'Rush Cut Charges'.
Go with a Demetrios Dress - it will be in on time!!!

Even better...call the bridal shop back and make them call the dress designer AGAIN or you call the dress designer. These dress makers are full of crap in my opinon, 6-8 months to make a dress...I don't beleive it....Best of luck

my dress only took 4 months to come in - they estimated 7-8! I'd try again with the salon or try contacting the designer yourself.

Wow, sorry to hear about your situation.

I agree with the other ladies - call the designer directly. There is no way it takes 7-8 months to make one dress. If they won't budge, then David's Bridal might be your best bet (I just wouldn't get it altered there - go to a trusted seamstress).

Good Luck and Keep us posted!!!

My dress took 5 weeks!!! to come in - although they had said it would take 4-6 months. I would double check. (I got it from the Commack Wedding Center) You should definitely check around.

Edited to say: Good luck!!!

Another idea if you can't get the salon to get you a dress in time...

Vera Wang is having her sample sale on Sat. Dec. 7, 2002 at the Hotel Pennsylvania (33rd St. and 7 Ave. Manhattan) starting at 9am.

I would definitely call the designer yourself. I know my designer was extrememly helpful throughout my wedding planning. They may help you expediate the order. Also, sometimes (I hear a lot of the times) shops don't place the order when you ordered it. If you find that out, that can help you in working something out with the shop to get a refund or credit to another dress. 5 Months should be plenty of time to get a dress! My friend got hers in three months. My dress was couture from Australia and totally hand embroidered and it came in in 5 months!

Don't know how much you wanted to spend but I'm trying to get rid of this dress:

it's a sz. 8 brand new Yolanda Couture.
It retails for $3500.
I'm selling it for $1925.

you CAN have your dress on time!!! i ordered an eve of milady dress 4 months before m wedding and without even a rush cut, i got it in 2 months!!! and e.o.m is notorious for taking a LOOOONG time to make the dresses.....just keep pressuring the bridal store....or do what someone else mentioned -use the $$ for bm dresses/mom's dress and order your gown from another place!
