Changing dresses at the reception

Hi Gals,

So i'm going to be a BM in my friends wedding and she choose these horrible looking dresses and the colors she wants are even worse! Would it be totally wrong and tacky of me to bring my own dress to change into at the reception after all the photos have been done? I just don't want to be stuck in an ugly dress all night. we are trying to get her to consider other colors/shades without upsetting her. Any thoughts/ideas?

I know i would HATE it for one of my bridesmaids to do that. I would guess talk with her before doing anything that she would get upset over.

Well, your a bride... how would you feel? I would be super pissed at my girls if they did that. Stick it out... its her day... you had yours on 09 right? :)

The pictures don't stop until the party is over!!! I would leave on the dress, out of respect to your friend. She loves you enough to have you in her bridal party, so love her back enough to endure the gown, IMO. :)

I wouldn't even bring it up to her... let it be her day. Sorry about the ugly dress though lol.

We've all been in our share of ugly BM dresses. I think many of us would have loved to have been able to change out of whatever atrocity the bride made us wear. That said, you need to stay in the dress until the end. Personally, I think even raising the issue with the bride is out of line. I certainly feel for you because you're reminding me of a certain maroon burlap sack dress I was once forced to wear (and was also forced to wear my hair in a hideous style). To this day, that friend has no idea how ugly I thought the dress was.

I'd tough it out in the ugly dress. I would be upset if one of my BMs changed.

but also IF she asks for opinions on the dresses AND hasn't chosen them yet maybe you can point out a different style or color that may be more flattering (without saying that the one she wants is hideous)... if she's not feeling the input, drop it. HTH

I would HATE it if one of my BM's did that to me - in my opinion it is disrespectful to the bride. It's your friend's big day and she obviously loves that dress....if you can wear it for her pictures, you can certainly wear it for a few hours - it's just one night!!

Unfortunately, yeah, it would be tacky and rude. It sucks that you have to wear something you don't like, but it's her day and I wouldn't want to make her feel badly.

I agree with everyone else - unfortunately, you're going to have to stick it out for the sake of the bride...

However, at my SIL's wedding, ALL of the BM's and the bride changed into 'bride' and 'bridesmaid' tank tops at the end of the night with yoga pants. I thought this was stupid (i mean, it's ONE DAY, you couldn't keep the expensive dress on for a full 12 hours?), but I know all of the BM's were happy that they could change into comfy clothes during the last hour of the reception. Depending on the bride, she may or not may not be receptive to an idea like this.
