Changing name

Just wondering when to start changing my last name on everything-wedding is in 3 weeks. When do I start & where? We have a week between wedding and honeymoon-should I do it then or wait until we get back-I need to have my birth cert. & license for honeymoon, so I was wondering if I should wait until after honeymoon to change everything. Thanks!!

Changing name

I started with DMV. Bring your original marriage certificate & your current license. It costs $3.00 and you will receive it in the mail. Save yourself an additional trip and get your car registration changed over at the same time (I didn`t think of this at the time and my car is still in my maiden name) Most credit cards, utilities & subscriptions did it right over the phone. Financial related stuff (bank, brokerage a/c`s, etc.) required their forms be filled out and to bring the original certificate and they will copy it. Passport you need to mail them the original certificate and they will mail it back to you. The only place I haven`t done it yet is with my SS# (got lazy...I should do it though). You can do it whenever you want, it doesn`t have to be before your honeymoon. Just make sure your plane tickets and documents are in the same name as your ID. I couldn`t wait to change my last name...the excitement of being newly married combined with marrying someone with a much easier last name!
