I read somewhere that your credit gets wiped out when you change your name. Is this true????

Re: Changing Name and Credit
I've never heard this but I find it hard to imagine since all your credit cards and bank accounts and stuff are tied to your social security #

I didn't think it would either but I read on some girl's blog that she applied for a store card and got rejected after she changed her name. Perhaps it was because it was too soon after she had gotten married and the name change had not gone through the system yet.

Re: Changing Name and Credit
I'm in the middle of changing over my credit cards now. I haven't had any problems, I just call up and tell them that I got married and that I'd like to change my last name. They take care of it and send me a new card in the mail, same account and everything so my credit still stands as it was before.

nooooo way! Doubt it! I WISH THOUGH!!!! Credit scores are linked to your name, social security #, address, etc... it takes ALOT to get away from them

No way. Your credit is tied to your SS#... It won't go away. I think some people have a lot of trouble when they first change their name before everything goes through, though. I also think some people may have issues with mistakes being made during the name change process, but your credit does not get totally wiped out.
(I think some people with bad credit wish it did, though!!)

Re: Changing Name and Credit
I wish FH has excellent credit....much better than mine. Credit is connected to your social....but if your husband has worse credit than you it can effect your rate for certain things like mortgages.
