Charging wedding expenses

Charging wedding expenses

How many couples are charging wedding expenses?

And if you are charging the wedding, how much are you planning to charge?

I am adding a poll just in case you would rather not post. I do know of a couple who charged their entire $60K wedding but on a Bank of America 0% interest for 1 year card that they are paying off in under 12 months.

Re: Charging wedding expenses

Most of my vendors do not accept credit cards and those that do only accept it for initial deposits, which were minimal amounts in the grand scheme of things. We are probably better off that we have to pay it in cash. That one year of no interest goes by fast!

Re: Charging wedding expenses

So far, we've charged all of our deposits except our limo and flowers, which we paid cash. I've haven't found out yet how I'm supposed to pay the rest of my balances. If we can, we're going to charge it and then do a balance transfer and pay it off. Our wedding is small 65-70 people on a Saturday day for a really good price. Our biggest expense outside the reception hall is our photo and video package, about 4K, so it shouldn't be so bad. I'm hoping anyway

We are charging deposits and anything that we cant get a lower rate on for paying cash. It goes on Mom's card and in return, she is giving us miles for our plane fare for the honeymoon. She has almost 300,000 as it stands today. We are giving her a hefty portion for the wedding anyway so it is taking from Peter to give to Paul in a manner of speaking.

DH hates credit cards with a passion. Sometimes things happen.. your car breaks down, you can loose your job, something in the house goes wrong etc. and then what do you do if you are stuck with a bills from your wedding that is long gone. Our Credit cards are for emergency use only. I loved being debt/bill free after the wedding.

I might charge the honeymoon. depends how much $ we save between now and 3-6 months from the wedding.

We charged 2 deposits which totalled $1,000 and both are paid off already.... my motto is, if you dont have the $ for it, DONT DO IT. I cant see going into debt just for a wedding but thats JMHO I want my house!!

Unfortunately we are charging as much as we can. Most vendors do not except credit cards, but the ones that do...we hand it over.

I used my credit card a lot, but I always pay my full balance the following month.

So far we haven't had to (debit cards are a wonderful thing). I'd like to come out of this owing nothing from the wedding. I am in debt enough (student loans, credit cards, etc).

we only charged the limo deposit and we paid that off right away, it was only $200. but we are definelty trying to avoid using a cc for anything.

We decided in the beginning not to charge anything. If we couldn't afford it, we wouldn't buy it. We are in the home stretch and the only thing we charged was the hineymoon, but when the bill came in we paid it in full.

I am still paying off some debt from when I first got out of college and I didn't want anymore.

Re: Charging wedding expenses

Like some of the other posters said, most vendors only accept charge for small initial deposits, so it is unlikely that anyone actually charged their entire wedding. If you can pay off the bill when it comes in, then there is no harm in charging deposits. You get points for free airfare and hotels, and it keeps your credit high if you charge things and pay them off immediately.

Re: Charging wedding expenses

Interesting results. I can see charging to get mileage and other credit card rewards. I didn't even consider that.

FI does not have any credit cards and is nearly done paying off the one card account he had but closed. I have a few cards but only use 1 (AMEX) which I pay off at the end of each month. AMEX has the best policies for returns. They have even accepted items past the store return deadline and given me a refund. I have no idea what AMEX does with the returned merchandise

The couple I know that charged as much of their $60K wedding as possible did not get married in NY so I assume their vendors accepted credit. I am pretty sure they charged the $10K site fee for the mansion they rented.

I am charging anything I can- at the 17000 I spent that is almost a plane ticket!!!!! But I am paying it all off when I get the bills from my wedding account.
