FH and I were considering doing a donation instead of favors. I'm just not sure what our guests will think. I need some feedback, thanks ladies!

Re: Charitable donation favors
I think charitable donations are a great idea. I am no where near that phase yet, but I would like to do St. Judes or save a pet.

Re: Charitable donation favors
We are planning to do a donation and so far everyone that we have told thinks it is a great idea EXCEPT FMIL she feels we should also give a favor.

Re: Charitable donation favors
We did this, people really liked it. Someone actually came up to me and thanked me for 'doing something useful with my money.' Check my album; the favors we used are there.

Re: Charitable donation favors
I think it's a wonderful favor! FH and I went to a wedding in April that the bride and groom did this.
They put a poem at each place setting basically saying instead of a knick knack they didn't think that we'd mind them donating the money to the American Cancer Society. She chose her chairty because her father was suffering from a cancerous tumor on his brain at the time, and unfortunately couldn't make it to the wedding because he was so sick. I thought it was very sweet of them to put the money they would have spend on favors for something much more worthwhile.

Re: Charitable donation favors
I wanted to make donations and FH liked the idea of having something on the table for guests to take with them. So, we compromised..... we're making chocolate thank-you's and I'm attaching DIY tags that explain where our donations were made.
We're donating to CancerCare and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Both organizations were extremely helpful to me and my family when I had bone cancer at age 15, so I feel this is my way of giving back to them. I was a 'wish child' and received my first Mac computer from MAW, which is how I taught myself to do layout design, hence all the DIY projects that I've been making for the wedding!!
They have scrolls and cards on their websites that say 'in honor of' or 'in memory of' or 'a donation has been made in your honor' that you can print out to display on the table for guests.

Re: Charitable donation favors
We did donations instead of favors to honor both our fathers We made our own donation scrolls. Guests really liked it and I personally would rather go to a wedding and know the bride and groom gave to a meaningful charity than receive another knickknack :) It means more to me to know that the money is going to help others or animals
