So we have been hitting as many halls in the past few days as possible...and we are really torn between Chateau La Mer and the Historical Thatched Cottage... They are both very different but both beautiful with an amazing view. We're going for food tastings on Wed and Thurs... Any feedback on either place would be great! Please be honest! And brutal if you have too! '

I dont really know about CLM but the thatched cottage's food tasting is amazing! You will get your own room and a bottle of champagne. Enjoy!

Really?! They were actually the most personable out of all the places we've gone to!!! Was it the managers or the waitstaff?

Re: Chateau La Mer & Thatched Cottage
Didn't look at CLM but we booked the Thatched Cottage for our upcoming July wedding and I'm so glad we did. Everyone I tell after the fact has nothing but extreme positives to say about them. The food is fabulous. The views are going to be fantastic. Everything is beautiful! Good luck!

the manager and the receptionist...the manager i felt was kinda sexist and didnt want to speak to me and only was interested in dealing with my fh...which is funny since Im in charge of the finances and all that

Def. Thatched Cottage. La Mer is a bit too overdone for my tastes.

Re: Chateau La Mer & Thatched Cottage
Once you finish the first bottle of champagne, don't be afraid to ask for another. It's really tasty raspberry champagne that you could greet the guests with as they come in for cocktail hour.
I think we went through 3 bottles of that stuff. So Good! And bring the full 6 people that they allow! It's a free dinner :)

Im a CLM bride 2 b and they were very nice and personable to me, the food is amazing they always call me back when I call asking questions. I think everyone has their own opinion but my experience so far has been great with CLM

Re: Chateau La Mer & Thatched Cottage
I'm getting married at TC and cannot wait! The food is amazing and the staff has been extremely helpful. I can't wait. My favorite thing about it, one wedding at a time. That's really the number one thing I was looking for in a hall.

Re: Chateau La Mer & Thatched Cottage
Had a eh experience with TC because I was going with an Irish theme i thought it would be perfect but this is before they did the renovations and we really had issues with the look of it. That and they wouldn't work with us because we had a small number of 85 people and they said they might split the room and have another party and I have no issues with sharing but not in the same room with a fake wall in between us - BUT THIS WAS over two years ago.
CLM I can not say enough good things about them. Great staff, i LOVE nick, great service all the time, great food (we go to many functions and we love CLM food). My parents and my aunt are fussy and didn't care for TC food but loved CLM but I have heard they have improved since I had met them. I still get compliments over the wedding there.
Go do both tastings and then go with your gut.

Not sure how important food is to you but I would let that be the deal breaker. I'm sure both our great places but people will always remember the food, lol.

Re: Chateau La Mer & Thatched Cottage
I'm a CLM bride so obviously I highly recommend it. I went to a wedding at Thatched Cottage and I hated the room. It was long and narrow and we couldn't see from one end of the room to the other. I don't know if there are other rooms there though.

Re: Chateau La Mer & Thatched Cottage
I am a TC bride but I grew up in Lindenhust. The CLM has changed owners and my friend is getting married there in June and said the food is really good. Obviously, I loved the food at TC (it was our main focus and we are 'foodies'). If the food is great at both, think about your overall theme of your wedding. They are both really different. We loved TC because the outside is amazing. Also, think about what you are getting for your money. Waiters per table, wine service, second food service, etc. Good luck!

Re: Chateau La Mer & Thatched Cottage
I live like 5 seconds away from CLM and I think it is absoultly beautiful. That is one of my top choices right now. I know I emailed them on a Tuesday night and that night I received a response really quick.
I never been to TC but I hear alot of people rave about that place as well.
Its all a matter of taste and whatever you are going to get the most for your $$$$.
Good Luck!

I'm a TC bride so that is my pick. The food and service is amazing! I rarely ever hear anything negative said about tc. The food tasting should definitly help. Good luck!

Re: Chateau La Mer & Thatched Cottage
Both are really nice places...me and FH looked at both. In my opinion, I LOVE the view of CLM, and how it is literally right on the Bay.
CLM's decor is a little much for me, but I also have very simple taste. We may have considered it more if we had met the minimum for the downstairs room which we liked much better than upstairs.
As you can see, we ended up booking the TC, because we loved the decor, outdoor areas, the rooms, how it is 1 wedding at a time and how much food they were giving us for our $$.
I don't think you can really go wrong...its more a matter of taste!

Re: Chateau La Mer & Thatched Cottage
Evertyime I've been to CLM (3x) the food has been served cold.
I know this happens a lot at large functions, but its really bothers me.
