cheap gift vs great gift

cheap gift vs great gift

I recently have received both cheap gifts and expensive ones. One of my fiances cousins and her husband sent us 25 dollars, which I couldnt believe, why even bother sending a gift, and one of my moms friends sent us 150 dollars and three gift baskets with tons of gifts in each. Neither could attend. Has anyone else gotten weird things like 25 dollars, or we also got a wedding album as a gift also, which I thought was also weird.

Wanna hear a weird gift-

my friend got married in feb and told me that someone gave her a nightgown for the wedding... no card..nothing- just a wrapped nightgown- which she said was ugly too!

THEN- this is the best- we are talking pretty stable making $$$$ corporate business.people... all at a table of 10- who gave $32.00!!!!!!!!!!!! With one card and all their names on it!
Thats weird and rude

I asked if maybe it had some sort of meaning to it...NOPE just weird!

Definitely weird! What an odd number too! $32??? They would have been better off rounding down to $30 At least it's a round number.

I have one. a friend of mine got married years ago. Very nice wedding. Over 200 ppl at a nice hall on a Saturday night. The flower girl's parents (the groom's cousin) gave them $25 as a wedding gift from all 3 of them! eeek!

my friend even paid for the flowergirl dress and all the accessories.

When my friend got married 2 years ago, our friend (at the time) who was also in the bridal party gave no card, no gift, nothing!

This same friend stole the bouquet that our other friend caught, and when it was nowhere to be found she was hysterical.

Months later, another mutual friend of ours went to her house and saw it in her refrigerator. (nice, right?)

Needless to say, none of us are friends w/ this girl anymore.....

Get prepared to be shocked and suprised.

The people who you expect to give you a $5 bill will give you $500.

The people you expect to 'cover their plate' may give you $25, or an ugly crystal bowl that went on sale at the Mikasa outlet for $15.

I had someone give me a guest book. Now, wasn't that stupid?????

Yes...right now, I already have received one gift, I'm not quite sure how to write the Thank You note for--from FHs cousins. I'm not sure if it was a late shower gift (it would 'fit' better for that) or a 'chintzy' wedding gift. It always seems those who have the least are the most generous and vice versa. So, I'll just sit back and be happy that the majority of the people we love will be there to celebrate our love!

i dunno...call me crazy but i think that sending something was nice of them. I had a few who didn't come and send NOTHING..
I think at least the people who sent the 25 or even just a card are showing that they do care

Yeah, that might be rude, but a gift is a gift... You should just say Thank You and move on.

I have to agree with that...at least the ones who cant come had some thought in sending you a gift. $25 isnt much but its something and more since you dont have to cover their plate.

My sisters wedding, her husbands side, his uncle is this big shot attorney who bought his wife and two daughters, ages 24 & 22 (adults) gave a card for all four with $100.
It happens and unfortunately you have to expect this to happen.

Re: cheap gift vs great gift

just wanted to add, that YES, I agree that for people who are not attending, it's more than generous for them to send anything at all. Etiquette says that if you are not going to attend, you do not have to send a gift.

The ones that I mentioned before were from people who attended my wedding. Except for the guestbook. She had her mother bring that to the reheasal dinner and give it to us. I appreciate the thought, but she was obviously 'regifting'. It wasn't 'wedding-ie' at all. If she didn't want the book, she could have dropped it off at the salvation army, instead of giving it to a bride the night before her wedding.
