Chicken with Antibiotics???

I read in Self that they feed chicken with some kind of cipro related antibiotic? Do you guy think its true? I usually don't read self, so I don't know how true their claims/research is.... But the article scared me to death (never mind that i hate chicken to begin with, I am steak girl)

Re: Chicken with Antibiotics???

I'm a steak girl too, which is weird because I was a vegetarian up until 4 years ago when I met FH. BUT I HATE chicken! It grosses me out. Will I eat it yes if there is nothing else! Will I continue to eat it if this is true.... ummmm.... NO WAY!

EW! I can't stand poultry!

Re: Chicken with Antibiotics???

Yes, but I believe it's true for other animal products as well, unless the package specifically says it doesn't have it. Hormones are another thing to be concerned about.

Nevertheless, organic chicken is very expensive to buy

Re: Chicken with Antibiotics???

I may consider buying organic chicken, at the rate we eat it its not too much. I don't know if the same case is with beef!!! Hormones is another story = I wish US had similar laws as European Union about that, I believe all these hormones make food unrealistically fattening.

Re: Chicken with Antibiotics???

I think organic chicken is also hard to find, but my midwife told me that Trader Joe's has it.

Re: Chicken with Antibiotics???

You really need to be careful with chicken. I am alergic to a lot of anitbiotics (any with sulfer). I ate chicken once that must have been treated with a lot of antibiotics and I went into anaphlactic (cp) shock and had to go to the hospital. I have to make sure any chicken I eat is really, really well done to be on the safe side. It's scary !!
