Chiffon vs Satin for Plus Size

Just wondering...

What are your opinions on satin vs chiffon for plus size women? I am looking into BM's dresses and are choosing between these two fabrics....

Re: Chiffon vs Satin for Plus Size

Satin can be iffy on plus size. It tends to show every little bump and imperfection.
I've seen thin girls wear silk and look lumpy.

it all depends on the dress though and if there's lining. Also the color and style.

A line is def the way to go.

Re: Chiffon vs Satin for Plus Size

as a plus size woman, my vote is Chiffon.

I have been a BM where we wore satin dresses (granted, they were very fitted.... to the point we had to hike the skirts around our arses to get into cars to get to the hall) and the Satin tends to be very unforgiving.

To me, Chiffon is more forgiving, as it doesn't cling to the body as much as Satin, and since its a softer (more flowy) fabric, its more figure friendly

Re: Chiffon vs Satin for Plus Size

As a plus size girl, it depends on the type of satin. The thin, almost like a slip kind of satin is horrible. However, the thicker, more stiff satin is good, IMO.
I tried on chiffon dresses for my friends wedding and it made me look bigger than I was because there were no defined lines. I guess it depends on the styles too.
Try and take the girls who are plus size to try on a couple of each to see what they feel more comfortable in. It depends on their shapes too. I have a larger backside, and the chiffon gathered up there lol.

Re: Chiffon vs Satin for Plus Size

My cousin had her very varying-sized bridal party in a-line navy satin dresses by Bill Levkoff. There was a slip underneath, and the a-line was very forgiving. Even the girls who ordered dresses in the 20's looked awesome! No bumps AT ALL! For some reason, I happen to really not like chiffon. I think it oftentimes looks very matronly and doesn't have a clean-cut sophisticated look. But I guess it depends on the look you're going for. If you want a more relaxed, flowing look, then chiffon is a good choice. I just feel like people KNOW you're trying to hide something with it and it can easily look frumpy on a plus-sized woman.

Re: Chiffon vs Satin for Plus Size

Definitely chiffon has more give, and I think it looks much nicer overall, satin can get sooo wrinkly!

Re: Chiffon vs Satin for Plus Size

chiffon.... my Bm's dresses are chiffon and I have plus size girls in Bridal party as well. Since we are getting married in the summer we wanted something light and comfy. All the girls loved the dress we picked out and i think they will look great on all.
