How hard do you think that would be to handle having children who are only a year apart?
Just curious.

Just curious???? Hmmmnnn..... Nicky's 3 months and a pregnancy is about 9 months so that would make Nicky...a year old? Hmmmnnnnnn......
I think it would be harder than if the older one was a little bigger but I'm sure you (or anyone) would adapt. Just like you adapt from being childless to parenting, you make it work.

Re: Child spacing
I think someone has a secret to share!!!!!
When I bring Justin to his Pre-Nursery School. The kids in his class are all 3. Out of the 11 Moms there, 2 of us are pg now, and there are 6 with a baby already. Each one of them said he was difficult in the beginning, but eventually they get into a routine and now it is okay.

Re: Child spacing
well isnt' THIS a thought provoking post.......
My sister has two very very close - they are incredibly close to each other as friends and I dont' remember any problems except for my sister's exhaustion a lot of the time!
Remember the List Keeper is always here for a good secret!!!

Re: Child spacing
My older two are 14 months apart. There are many great parts to having them that close! They are best friends, share the same circle of friends, etc. After you get through the diaper years, it's pretty smooth sailing!

Re: Child spacing
I am not a parent, but I will share this. I am 5 years older than my brother and 10 years older than my sister. I would have loved having a sibling close in age. I am sure it is tough, but I think it could be so great for the kids!

I think it might be hard. But, you just adapt. I assume it would almost be like having twins. It happens to woman all the time!

Re: Child spacing
DH & I were having this conversation just last night! Our 'anniversary' is this week ... we were joking about making it 2 years in a row! We won't be starting again until about June/ July ... I'd like an April/ May baby! Perfect for the end of the school year!

My brother and I are 18 months apart and have a special bond. My mom just didn't sleep much. News?

Re: Child spacing
Nothing to share... I promise.
This was just based on thoughts brought on by a combo of Christy's and Christine's posts... we've been discussing both our 'anniversary' of conception, and the huge age gap between me and my siblings, and it just got me wondering.
I appreciate all responses.

Re: Child spacing
Jenn- Just to add that my little brother and I have 19 years between us and we are very close. Of course it is more of a mother/child relationship than siblings but still we are close. I think it depends on the children, more than the age difference.

Wow, and I thought the 17 year spread between my oldest sister and I was quite large.
To add in, I definitely think that you adjust and to be honest, it's what you make of the situation. You can either be happy and accept that being a parent is difficult to begin with or you can say it's impossible. With that being said, I don't know how my mom had 5 out of 7 of us with in about 8 years. I am sure that I will wonder even more once I have my first!
ED to say that it was actually 5 kids in 7 years. Sometimes it takes me a minute to rememeber how old everyone is!

Re: Child spacing
You know that I am the oldest of seven. What you might not know is that going down the line there is only one year between all of us. I am 28 and my youngest sister is 21. My mom says it was great, because we were all always occupied and had someone to play with. She says that we were less demanding on her than other children she had seen because we entertained each other.
Once I start, I plan to have all of mine fairly quickly. I liked being in high school with my brother and sister. We are all very close and I think that has a lot to do with how close in age we are.

I can definitely see that kind of relationship forming and being very special because you (the older sibling) are mature and ready to love a child unconditionally, something a child, even an older child may not be able to do.
I'm 5 years older than my sister and 7 years older than my brother ~ just enough of a gap that I spent from the time they were 4 until I left for college thinking they were terribly annoying. That's immaturity for ya.
My brother and sister were always friends.... I wish I had that bond with someone.

jenn you can bond with me...my brother and sister are much closer with each other than with me. I get to play the ' other mother' role.

Re: Child spacing
My brother and I are only 14 months apart and we have a great relationship. My mom tells us that it was hard when we were little because we lived in the city, she did not drive, my dad worked nights so she had to keep us occupied all day long without trying to wake my dad, but we are here and fine. I love having him so close in age to me.
