Children at reception

Original post by 0707Bride

Here's a question for the ladies with flowergirls and ring bearers - My ceremony is at my church at 4. My cocktail hour begins at 7 (I know - quite a gap - I hate it!). My FGs are 7 and 3 (my cousin's daughters) and my RB is 3 (my nephew). Should I be having these children at my reception? Is it rude to expect them to go home? On the other hand I don't think it's normal for a 3 year old to stay up until midnight and I want my sister and cousin to enjoy themselves without running after their kids.
What is everyone else doing??? Any tips?
I was thinking of having a babysitter in the bridal suite but I don't know if that's strange.

I would call the paretns and ask them, noone knows their kids better. Then if they say yes to a babysitter, they might be able to reccomend one!

Having a babysitter at the reception is a great idea! I never thought of that. My nephew can't wait for the wedding therefore, I wouldn't be able to tell his mom to bring him home! I really like the sitter idea

We are not having any children at our wedding other then my 10 year old jr groomsman/nephew and my nieces who are 14 & 16 years old who willb e Jr bridesmaid, they will be the only ones attending. I made it fun for them with a camera scavenger hunt, which will be placed on each one of there plates at the RH. this way they are kept busy, plus I am making sure I play a song or two that they all love. If you have a hotel you or your guest are staying at, usually they can tell you of a baby sitter who has references. Or you could ask a few of the kids parents if they know someone, it may work out best that way, this way maybe they will know a few of the kids and the parents will feel comfortable leaving them with the babysitter.

Re: Children at reception

My flower girl and ring bearer are both going to be 7 on the wedding. Church is at 3 and reception starts at 7. We decided not to have kids at the reception, (except for FG and RB) because its a sat nite, and it ends at 12. I was considering a babysitter, but the room they would be in is right opposite the wall where the DJ is going to be. There is no way kids are going to stay in that room, hearing the music booming, and knowing there parents are in there. So we just decided to have the flower girl and ring bearer stay, but I think my aunt is going to have my flower girl picked up around 9 or so. Since it is going to be a long day for her, she knows she is going to be cranky and whiney.

We are having eleven children at the wedding. A majority of them are in the wedding which are my two cousins, FH's four nieces and two nephews.

My nephew, BM's son, and FH's other niece is also invited to the wedding. Yes, that is eleven total. Bride and Groom are not the babysitters!!!
LOL!!!

My cocktail hour starts at 7pm too, so my FG's are going to that, but will be dropped off at the babysitters before the dinner reception begins, which will be around 8pm.
