Hi all! Helping a friend plan her wedding and i need some help with invite wording. She is inviting kids of all ages because they both have big families. However, it would be nice if they stayed home. is there any possible way to say in a nice way that they are welcome to come but it isnt really preferred? TIA
Ps...it's so awesome to be back on here! (Former 07 bride)

Welcome back!!
That's a tough one! I think it might be an all or nothing proposition. I'm assuming there would be a big stink if she said the wedding was adults only.
What about addressing the invitations to the parents and if they inquire about bringing their kids, your friend can tell them they can bring their kids if they truly have no other option. This kind of puts the burden on the parents to ask and perhaps those who know the etiquette will realize their kids aren't invited.
Has she thought about providing a babysitting service at the wedding?

Thanx so much. Babysitting is a great option. I think she has to put the kids on the invite so maybe we can make it seem like maybe the parents dont wanna bring the kids. I just dont want to sound rude.

Maybe Adult Only Reception? That's what I'm planning to say.

My sister wrote on her invitations..Adult only reception and not many people got offended, they only had 2 kids which were her husband's sister & brother's kids and nobody said anything to them since everyone knew they were immediate family

This! I did the same thing. Plus my FSILs started spreading the word to anyone that asked last year when we booked the RH.

I addressed the envelopes to just the adults and everyone got the point
