Re: China Closets
I think you just kind of get in a groove and go with it
Try a bunch of ways and see how you like it!

Re: China Closets
There are a few decorating standards for displays like keep collections together, stager from high to low on multipul shelves. I dont think there is a 'correct way' to arrange a china display. Just set it up the way you like. As you collect more things over the years you will make changes.

Re: China Closets
I am not really looking for the correct way but for ideas. I was staring at my MIL this weekend and she had mostly decorative stuff in hers. Ideas like -did you put all your china and crystal in the display piece? If not where do you store it all? Did you put things in piles or make it all showy?Just looking for creative yet practical ideas...mine should be coming in the next 3 weeks! Can't wait for the set!

Re: China Closets
Bridetobe, OK so this isn't a china cabinet but a hutch that I refinished and just got into my apartment over this weekend. I am working on filling it up and completing it but maybe this will give you some ideas??? Hope it helps.

Re: China Closets
StacyYou did a great job finishing it off
We have the same dishes - well FH has and they'll be mine soon
I think I have a pic of mine somewhere - its closed in in glass and right now its pretty tightly packed

Re: China Closets
Dubliner that is so funny that your FH has these dishes because of course I loved so many other Pfaltzgraff dishes but these are the only ones Gary and I could compromise on! He wanted Midnight Sun (black dishes)!!!Thanks for the compliments on the hutch girls, my Dad found it on the street and it was this dark stain. This is a pic of it after I sanded the whole thing down. One man's junk is another man's treasure right? This kept me busy after the wedding!

Re: China Closets
Thanks! It really wasn't that hard but it took about 4 weeks with sanding (really only on the weekends) and one full weekend to stain, 2 coats. Had to put new feet on it and use wood filler for the veneer that broke and clean it out well. What do you guys think? Should I put glass in for the doors or no??

Re: China Closets
My first thought was yes...because I like them with glass in general....but then I scrolled up and looked at it again and now I do not think it needs it. Guess I am no help!

Re: China Closets
For the glass - Do you mean in place of the bottom doors or on the hutch part? I would leave the bottom alone unless you have something specific you want to display. If you can do doors on the top without hurting the overall look of the piece I might go that way only to cut down on the dusting. I hate to dust.

StacydzYou did an awesome job. That is such tedious work, you should be very proud. It came out fabulous
edited - is that a maple finish? very rich and comforting looking. Do you have any prior experience with refinishing?

Re: China Closets
Glass I meant on the top, I totally agree with you Fran, I hate to dust too and that was my thought as to why I probably need the glass!
Dubliner, god no I don't have any experience in refinishing, this was the first time I thought to try it. Gary bought me a sander at Home D and I sanded away!
It really isn't hard, I wouldn't say I am a pro at it, I think any of us could do it!Edited to say that I have no idea with kind of wood it is!
