China...registry

Looking to see what others would do. For YEARS I have been obsessed with a certain China Pattern. I wouldn't even want/need China but I saw this pattern years before we got engaged and would even go 'visit' it in the store every so often.

Well.. we registered for it and nobody bought it. At all. And at $129/setting.. we just can't afford to buy it our own. We don't even have a place to keep them but OH how I WANT them!!! The only reason though that this is even a situation? We registered for our 'Fancy' silverware which is gorgeous and we got it. Service for 8. We have our everyday for our everyday plates and now we have this gorgeous set that looks silly with our everyday plates. What should we do? Would you find a way to buy your China?

I would. I LOVE my china pattern. Silverware won't go bad if you store it correctly, so just take your time with buying your china. I don't know where you registered, but Macy's and BBB have coupons all the time and sales, so you can slowly get all your settings at a reasonable cost. Keep the silverware for when you have all your china.

I say slowly buy a setting one at a time when you can afford it. If you really love it that much, you won't regret it!

Not sure what your everyday Dinnerware looks like, but while you're saving it to buy the full China set, you could buy the individual salad plates of the pattern you love & lay that on top of your everyday dinner plate (only works if you have a complimentary color) to get the same kind of look, but a little less formal.

Also - while you should get a registry completion discount, if it allows you should wait until January when all major department stores have big home sales, including fine China :) then you can double dip on discounts.

China...registry

I put the china set on my registry for my bridal shower. I was trying to stay under a $100 per setting but we decided to add the one we love and it compliments my everyday set. I can't wait to use them!!!

Oh wow!!! The top one is our china set. We received a gift in the mail and it was the china set in person. It's so elegant.

I think we are gonna take the advice n buy slowly. We have a special 20% off our registry event tomorrow night so I was thinking 2 settings. Hubby thinks 4.. I'm pushing for just 2... 4 is too much $$
