I've gone a couple of times....most look real, but you have to have the time to look. You can't beat the prices though, and they have nice stuff that usually can pass as real.

I actually like getting bags from the guy who sells Coach bags on my corner. I got one last August and it still looks good and I can beat the crap out of it! I have real bags and I never want them to get messed up, so for everyday use, I use my fakeys!

i've never been there, but my sister went the other day and she bought a 'louie' its cute and i liked it i thought about going to get one myself. but then the other day she heard someone mumble about her 'fake' bag and she got upset and didnt like it anymore, so i gave her the money she spent on it and said i'd use the bag.

Re: Chinatown/Canal Street
I get bags and wallets and sunglasses on canal street every spring and fall. I love getting imitation bags that are the 'style of the season'. They are cheap, but fall apart within one season- which is why I go twice a year.
You can negotiate the hell out of everything. Know what you want to spend and go to every place you can until someone takes your offer. They hate letting you walk out the door, especially if you show major interest in an item. I usually dont have a problem paying much less than they tell me it costs.
I got my LV bag there and it looked so real but the handles really didnt hold up that well. But for $20, it lasted long enough. ETA: I want to go and get a Burberry one for the fall.

I go to Canal street to get my fake 'fix' I find you really have to scout around...pretty good knock off's...bags will last you a while...I've had my fake PRADA bag for a few years...still looks good...IMO but hey it was $20 - gotta love a bargain...

What I do is check out the real version of the bag I want first, then go down to Canal St and scout out to see how close the the original it is. The better the knockoff, the more money you will spend, but not more than $50. Some of the vendors even have catalogs to show you the different styles. There are even different classes of knockoffs! Time magazine did an article on it a few years back, should have kept it.

Re: Chinatown/Canal Street
I just picked up a few for a friend on on Wednesday. I got a few of the small LV's for $15 each. They looked good to me but I don't really know about all the design details that give it away as a knock off.
