Re: CHRISTENING GIFT FOR FIRST BABY--help-- what do I give
I also say saving bond. I got a $200 bond for $100 and also a little outfit for my GF's baby.
Edited because when I read this it made no sense!!!
I wanted to say that I paid $100 for a $200 bond.

I am going to one on 2-14 at the Sand Castle (big Greek christening) I will give $100 savings bond (cost $50) and I'm buying a really cute pig piggy bank (decorated and has a fur collar on it) with $20(or so) taped to the side to start her off.

I think the Tiffany teething rattle makes a really nice gift (they range $85+). It seems impractical (why does a baby need Tiffanys?) but its a great keepsake and its really effective - the metal holds the cold and eases teething pain.

We've given savings bonds. And I usually make them something like a Pooh stool.

Re: CHRISTENING GIFT FOR FIRST BABY--help-- what do I give
for those of you who give money or bondhow much have you given
is it okay to give a 100.00 bond? or do I have to give 200? Does it really matter
just curious what the norm is, but I guess you give what you can afford, kinda like at weddings
thanks!!

tammy ... (I wasn't sure if you realized this) savings bonds cost HALF of their face value ... they appreciate over time. I didn't know it until I went & bought one & was sooo excited b/c I was prepared to spend more! Also, for a sentimental gift ... I love MAKE - A - MEMORY in Mineola on Jericho tnpke. Janet is the owner. She's got so many keepsake gifts at reasonable prices. You might want to do both! And she's terrific to deal with ... she'll know just what you need!

Re: CHRISTENING GIFT FOR FIRST BABY--help-- what do I give
I recently gave my cousin $50 if I was giving a bond I would have given a $100 bond. I think that is normal.

Re: CHRISTENING GIFT FOR FIRST BABY--help-- what do I give
We give money or a bond! Depends on our relationship with the parents. The last Christening I went to was Rob's close friend's baby, so we gave $125! If I wasn't as close, and it was out, I would probably give about $100. And if it was family, I would give more than the $125. It all depends on your relationship and what you've already given them!

Re: CHRISTENING GIFT FOR FIRST BABY--help-- what do I give
Oh! I became a Godmother over the summer and got my cousin's baby a single share of stock in Disney. You can get it at One Share . It is a single, unfolded share of stock in the company. They mat and frame it. Each year the child gets a share report. I had a plaque put on it it that read:Lauren Janine
July 2002
Your Little Piece of the Kingdom
My cousin loved it so much she hung it in the family room. Everyone was talking about it b/c nobody had ever seen anything like it. You can pick from a bunch of places to get stock in but I thought Disney was cute for a baby. Mine cost a little over $100 for the stock, framing, and shipping.
