Chubby Bride

Any advice on stores for us girls that are a little on the chubby side. Seems like all the dresses Ive seen are strapless and that is not my style. I know that David's bridal has a 14+ department - but i heard some bad stuff about them. Any Advice?

Try Bridal Suite in Patchogue, they have a whole room of plus size dresses to try on. People tend to have trouble with Davids. I know I did the day I went to look.

I say try David's, the only one I have heard bad things about is the one in Carle Place. Many of the girls here had good experiences with David's.

I know what you mean about the strapless dresses, I had the same problem also. I went to RK Bridal in Manhattan this weekend and they had a very large plus size selection.

Some designers you might want to look into are (you can link to their sites or view dresses from RK Bridal's site)
Alfred Angelo
Emme
Paloma Blanca - Diva line
Mon Cheri

Here is one that I am thinking of from the Mon Cheri line

Re: Chubby Bride

I went to quite a few places and I have to say some attendants can pin the dress so you can get the feel but if the dress is way too small well no good. I would recommend Macy's Bridal in Manhasset. I worked with Laura she was great. Also Flowerama in Elmont. Also good and they had a decent selection of larger sizes. Also Bridal Reflections in Carle Place. I dealt with Maddie she was good too.

I will FM a pic of my dress since I do not want my FI to see it. He peeks at my posts every now and then

Re: Chubby Bride

Only bad stuff I've ever heard about David's is the one in Brooklyn. I've been to the one in Freehold NJ (it's where I got my dress) and I was in the one in Carle Place this weekend. I have been very happy with them so far.

Also, in Brooklyn Lestan's and Alison's Bridal (formerly the Bridal Outlet) both have very nice plus size departments.

Good luck!!

I went to Bridal Suite of Centereach. they had a lot to try on and Amy was very helpful! Try ALfred Angelo and Emme for ideas. The bridal suite will someitimes order the sample for you too!! They did for me with the bridesmaids!!!

Re: Chubby Bride

I got mine at the David's in Danbury, CT, and was treated like dirt. I did, however, get 20% off in the end from corporate for my troubles.

Carle Place has been very good to me ever since (it's a phenomenon, I tell you, tell a store you had a bad experience at another branch and they'll bend over backwards to make you happy, even if they don't do that for their other brides) I called them, I've been dealing with their manager, Carmella.

Excuse the question, and you don't have to answer, but how plus size are you? I'm plus size (gotta shop at Lane Bryant), but I was still able to fit in a non-plus size dress, Size 18 (I've since come down to a 16). Look around, and try on a few sizes. Go to David's at least to try on stuff in your size.

My vote is also for Bridal Suite in Centereach. They do have a few dresses in plus sizes. I was able to try on 16's and 18s there.

Re: Chubby Bride

I second Lillette's. I was just there last week and picked out a Paloma Blanca Diva.

I must have tried on at least 10 dresses, and that was AFTER I eliminted sleeveless and ones that were too 'lacey'. (I'm also on the 'larger' side of plus size, and they had ones that I could still put on!)

Ask for Gerri, she's great!

i found my dress in Commack (wedding center) they have a pretty good selection, but I bought it at Burton's Bridals (price was much better)!

Re: Chubby Bride

Diva by Paloma Blanca is for sizes 14 and up.

My gown is Demetrios - it goes up to a 24.

I got it at Macy's Bridal Salon in Manhasset.

I 'tried on' some 10's - they didn't zipper up but I got the idea of the dress and most dresses you can order sizes larger than 14 even if they don't have that size to try on. Find out before your order!
