When we called the church back in july they said they didn't have there books yet so we couldn't come in and that they would be gettin them in september. So we called back in september and now they are telling us to call back at the end of december. does this sound right??
**Update**So I called the church yesterday and again no answer and I left a message. I am still waiting for them to call me back!!!

UGH! I'm sorry to hear that your church is giving you the run around.
My church did the same thing...first they never returned my calls then I finally got someone on the phone around May and they said they didn't have their 2008 book yet and to call back in July which I did but again they didn't return my calls!!
I finally gave up on my church after trying to call them for 4 months and went to another church out of parish (you pay a bit more) but they have been soooo helpful with returning my calls and answering any question I have- they also let me book my date!!
Have you given any thought to going out of parish? I did not want to at first but I refused to deal with my church if they weren't even going to return my phone calls!

Re: Church
My church did the same thing. They just wrote my date in the back of the 2007 book because they didn' t have a 2008 book yet. I know they did the same thing to Matilde.
I didn't even go in to speak to them cause they told me to make an appointment to meet with them in January of 2007 to figure out pre-cana and everything. Have them officially write down the date and stuff.
Don't worry about it, the problem is that a lot of the church's just don't have their 2008 books yet. If you wait till January you should have a problem. Ask them to write it in the back of the '07 book for now just to make sure they have it written down somewhere.

Re: Church
If you don't mind me asking... what church is it?? I had the problem of the priest NEVER calling back. I'd call and speak the rectory secretary and she'd say Father so and so would call me back and I'd never get a call. Finally I kind of laid into her a little bit saying that I'm trying to do the right thing by booking the church first and that they are making that very difficult for me. I got a call later that day. When I met with the church they said they didn't have the 2008 book yet, but he wrote a note in the 2007 book to mark the 2008 book as soon as they got it.

St Lukes. I had that problem of when i called I wouldn't get any answer and alot of times the secretary would say that the preist wasn't in at the moment. Then finally she told me that they didn't have there books yet.

Re: Church
Our priest didn't have the '08 book either when we wanted to book, but he did receive it about 2 months later and then called us back to schedule an appointment. I felt like buying him an '08 calendar myself. I could have gotten one faster than he did.

We actually weren't even allowed to make an appointment. i called about a month ago and they said to call in the beginning of 07 that is when they will have appointments for 08 weddings......UGH we aren't set on just one church in particular so hopefully we won't have a problem.

Re: Church
The paster of that church is the one who is doing my wedding! Msgr. Tosi. Very good friend of the family. The parish is really busy though. If he's the one you're trying to contact just give him a little time. Don't worry he'll get back to you.

Are you a parishoner at this church? if not, that is why they're probably giving you the run around. they give priority to bride and/or groom who themselves or their immediate family (i.e. parents) are parishoners. they may be holding out on booking non-parishoners for awhile to give parishoners first dibs on dates. many parishse on LI dont' let you get married there at all if you or FH's family are not parishoners.

Not sure if this was directed at me or not but I'll answer anyway! No actually I live in Howard Beach and am getting married at our local parish there. Our parish is one of the first parish's Msgr. Tosi was assigned to when he first became a priest and has been close with my family for many many many years now.

Re: Church
But how do they know if i got to there church or not?? They never asked me my name or any information. They just tell me that they don't have there books yet. I find it very strange.
