My FH and I met w/ the priest and the priest is asking for a 700.00 donation plus any enhancements for the ceremony...talk about putting a price on 'donations' ! i really wanted to get married in a church but its looking a bit steep.
Ha anyone's heard of such donation?

Re: Church Ceremonies
Yea churches ask for a lot now. Back in the day it used to be 'donate what you can afford' now its a 'required donation'. My church is about $700 for my ceremony. I'm not sure what you mean by enhancements, but mine includes the music/organist too

Re: Church Ceremonies
Unfortunatly, Churches are charging a lot now. There was a post a while back and girls were saying their churches were costing them anywhere between $300-900!

Re: Church Ceremonies
if u are a church member then the preist should not charge for weddings......but if youre not then u have to pay a fee but $700 is just plain ridiculous!!!

Re: Church Ceremonies
I am a church member so the building is free (otherwise $150). I do have to pay a set fee for the custodian ($60, + extra on my discretion because I'm requesting special pew candles), and if I use the organist (which I do not want to) that would be $150 I think. I pay the pastor what I feel is right.

Re: Church Ceremonies
Are you a parishioner of this church? I know that our chuch has two different prices. We are paying a lot less than $700.

Re: Church Ceremonies
Wow that's alot.
My church is asking for a $350 'donation' ( I love how they call it a suggested donation lol), and then it's $195 for Pre-Cana (evening classes, not weekend).
Maybe you could check out another church? As long as you're a parishoner, your church can write you a letter of sponsorship for any other church.

Re: Church Ceremonies
that sounds about right. im paying $770 for ours, but if we attend and become members of the church it 'drops substantially'.

Re: Church Ceremonies
Ours is $350 for members of parish, $500 for non-members and $235 for music. Rehearsal is included and you pay the ceremony fee at the rehearsal. The music payment and details are due 2 months before.

Re: Church Ceremonies
Wow that seems kind of high. Our church told us $500. He didn't even use the word donation... he just said the fee was $500.
