church fees

Original post by AeroJenn

Our church 'fee' is $500. Then we have to pay $300 for the organist, $50 for the alter guild, and $250 for the priest (honorarium).

We werent expecting the organist to be this much and I personally feel that this is a lot to pay for a church. Are these 'fees' mandatory or do you girls think we can give less for certain things??

We paid 35 for pre-cana and foccus was free!

We in the end will pay the church 550...this is for everything, the donation the organist/singer....I think some of the numbers I am hearing are out of control. Sorry, no matter what, I understand its one thing to want to get paid...and its another to charge someone 1500 for an hour and a half of your time!

My church fee is $400.00 the organist was $98 and as for the Priest and alter boys its up to you as to how much. If you want something different for the church then your better off paying thier price. A Harp player is 600.00 for an hour, horns are 500-600 an hour and those are the prices that you are looking at. Do you have anyone is your family that is a singer or a musician that have conections? They can help you out at a cheeper cost.

I'm not sure anyone was questioning religion.. I think we were more or less questioning the 'Donation' aspect..

I'm actually hurt that you would think I'm questioning my faith..

I didn't mean for my post to taken as questioning religion - I apologize. I was just basing it off people getting offended by people questioning the donation. Basically some people feel the church is entitled to the donation and more, other people feel it's too much.

I just saw some posts becoming inflammatory, and was hoping to mellow it out. Looks like I did the opposite!
