do we have our ceremony at a church or at the RH? We are not particularly religious. The RH has a really nice ceremony area (outdoors) not so nice indoors. am i totally overthinking the fact of rain? what if it rains than am i totally screwed of having a ceremony inside in a not so nice place? am i stressing over nothing>? or do i book a church to be safe so its nice either way and not have the outdoor ceremony? either way i need to make a decision because i need an officiant or priest

Re: church or RH ceremony--plz help!
FYI.. maybe this helps in your decision..
a Catholic Priest WILL NOT marry you at the RH... They make an exception for interfaith marriages... Other than that no will catholic priest will..
You will see alot of girls use people who's name is Father so and so, but your wedding will not be recognized at the vatican or eyes of the catholic church

Re: church or RH ceremony--plz help!
I really wanted mine at the church but fell in love with our RH and I liked both options outdoor and indoor (in case of rain) and that is what sold us. I would have DEF gone with the church if I hated the indoor contingency plan! Plus my RH is one wedding at a time so it's very private.

You will have to find a priest that will do it.. (becuase i do believe inside it can be recognized) the problem is finding a priest that will... For the most part they will tell you No.. and especially if you dont really go to church, if its a family priest that has known you for ever, they might agree to it... You will have to ask your priest.

I would say church but I went to catholic school my whole life. I don't know now unless it's a holiday but I felt that I wanted to get married inmy church. But it's up to you. I think the idea of rain and it not being nice inside like you said maybe you should do the church so either way you will be happy. and itf it's nice then you can go to the RH for your pics.

I think they do the ceremonies in the room upstairs with the windows along the back. when i booked they were setting up a ceremony there.
or maybe in the new room on the main floor?

Re: church or RH ceremony--plz help!
I know it's a little late...but I just wanted to add my experience:
When FH & I booked our wedding, I did not consider myself particularly religious, so we booked it at the RH.
However, as time progresses, I am much more drawn to my Catholic roots...and I feel those feelings will continue to grow. FH & I will absolutely raise our children Catholic. A few weeks ago, I got VERY upset that we were not getting married in a church.
We changed it last minute, and I seriously thank God constantly that we did. I know that I would've looked back and regretted not having the church ceremony.
If you're torn, remember, you're going to have your time at the RH to enjoy it whether or not you have the ceremony there. If you don't have the church, you won't have it all.
JMHO from my experience with a similar situation.

hmmm...I wanted an outdoor ceremony. I am commanding it NOT to rain so I'm doing mine at the RH.
but...there's something to be said about a church wedding..and yes, I'm jewish too! lol
are you both the same religion? that makes it easier. does anyone in your family belong to a church? oh...do you have to do precana or anything? that adds time & money. and are you decorating the church?
we are both catholic (not really practicing) we belong to different churches but we dont have a preference if we get married at one of our churches or a completely different one all together we would prb have to do precana either way (we think) because we would probably want to get married by a priest even if its at the RH
I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't have to do precana if it's at an RH. A Catholic Church will not recognize the marriage if it's outside of the church (in this circumstance...since you are both Catholic), so you wouldn't have to do their marriage preparation.
Also, a Catholic priest can't marry you outside the Church in this situation, since you are both Catholic. You COULD have someone who technically left the priesthood to get married and have a family. Technically that person is still a priest, because once you are a priest, you are a priest for life. However, that person is not a priest in the traditional sense.

We're going with the church, and we are not seeing each other until I walk down the aisle. There's just something dramatic about the church ceremony that I love.

Re: church or RH ceremony--plz help!
Step one: inhale, exhale, repeat....this will all work out
Step two: what do YOU want? What is your dream? Don't worry about weather, don't worry about logistics, don't worry about what the Priest has to say, just worry about what you and FH want. If you both think it would be nice to have it in a church then go that route; but if you've always envisioned yourself walking down a grass aisle then do that. Follow what is going to make you happy.
I know in our case we're going the church route because FH would like it and it's something that our families feel is important. As far as I'm concerned Central Park, baby; but it's important to FH so that's what we're doing.
Stop stressing, take a breather, and follow what you really want. If that's a church then fine, if it's not then that's fine too and you plan for outdoors with an indoor rain contingency.
Murphy's law says that if you have no contingency plan it will rain, but if you do have a rain-plan it will be perfect weather

Re: church or RH ceremony--plz help!
I decided on having at a church to make it more intimate. It depends on what you want.
